Ricks pleads guilty to attempted grand larceny

SCHUYLER COUNTY—Crystal Ricks, 38, former president of the Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce, pleaded guilty, in the last week of July, to attempted grand larceny in the fourth degree.
The chamber terminated her employment March 11 of this year after a monthly financial review showed irregularities.  According to the Schuyler County District Attorney, Watkins Glen Justice Nicholas Dugo sentenced her to one year conditional discharge, a fine and surcharge of $1,250, and 250 hours of community service (to be completed within six months).  The district attorney's office said Ricks admitted to stealing more than $1,000 from the Watkins chamber and voluntarily paid full restitution to the chamber in the amount of $9,219, before entering her plea.
In March, Maxine Neal took the position of interim president until the chamber could find someone to take the job.  Chamber board Chairman Tom Phillips said they have started the preliminary review of applicants to take the position.
