PENN YAN--Executive Director Kate Ring will retire July 1 after eight years with the Arc of Yates. Ring joined the Arc in the summer of 2007, having previously been the director of early childhood and family services at Action for a Better Community in Rochester.
"It has been a tremendous experience to have the opportunity to lead an agency whose mission it is to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities," Ring said. "I am extremely pleased to belong to a community that includes our children, adults and families as vibrant members."
Ring said the greatest difficulty during her time as executive director was the loss of their program building due to the flooding May 13, 2014. She said the Arc has received approvals on necessary repairs and will begin work "hopefully in April" at the cost of more than $1 million dollars.
Ring said she is retiring because she is of retirement age, adding in retirement, she would like to spend more time with her family and to enjoy some leisurely travel.
The board of directors is conducting a search for a new leader of the organization that supports more than 300 individuals in education, vocation residential day program, recreation and community support settings. Those interested in the position may contact Terry Freeman attfreeman@arcofyates.org.
