'Road rage' incident under investigation

STARKEY—The Yates County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a “road rage” incident involving shots being fired.
According to Sheriff Ron Spike, the incident happened on Route 14 in the town of Starkey, near Lakemont, Sunday, Sept. 19, at 7:10 p.m. Authorities said there was a report of multiple gun shots coming from one vehicle and allegedly striking another vehicle.
Spike said there were no injuries and the preliminary investigation indicates this to be a “road rage incident.” The sheriff’s department said a partial description of the vehicle was last seen northbound on Route 14.
A follow-up report, sent Monday morning, said the suspect vehicle is a grey, newer model Sports Utility Vehicle. Spike said a license plate number provided by a witness led to a Westchester County, N.Y., resident.
Officials explained local police there went to the residence during the preliminary investigation and found the vehicle with that plate in the driveway. Spike said it is then impossible for this to be the suspect vehicle.
The investigation continues.
