Sahlen’s weekend expands racing entries

WATKINS GLEN—Watkins Glen International will host a larger entry field for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen this weekend. The events run from Thursday, June 26 through Sunday, June 29. The entry field has been expanded and now includes the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, which will be hosting the third out of four Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup races at the event. The TUDOR race will feature four classes of cars, including Prototype, Prototype Challenge, GT Le Mans and GT Daytona. The TUDOR United SportsCar Championship is sanctioned by the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA).
The prototype class has an all pro driver lineup with cars specifically designed for racetracks. The Prototype Challenge class has all cars designed to the same specifications, which includes an open cockpit. The GT Le Mans class feature production-based cars with all pro drivers, while the GT Daytona class has production models with a pro-am driver mix.
In addition to the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship and Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, the weekend will also include Lamborghini Super Trofeo, Porsche GT3 Cup USA, and Cooper Tires Prototype Lites.
“These cars are going to be fantastic, making this event weekend a sports car lovers dream,” said Michael Printup, president of Watkins Glen International. “When you pack five amazing racing series into one already historic weekend - you just know it is going to be great.”
The gates will open at 7 a.m. Thursday morning, with practice runs for the Cooper Tire Prototype Lites, the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge, the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series and the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge series running from 8:40 a.m. through 4 p.m.
Gates open once again at 7 a.m. Friday, with qualifying runs taking place from 9 a.m. to 11:40 a.m. The first race of the day will begin at 2:15 p.m., with races concluding at 5 p.m. The Sahlen’s seventh annual Hot Dog Eating Contest will run from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., with the Friday night concert running from 6:45 to 9:15 p.m., featuring the Zac Brown Tribute Band.
Saturday’s gates open at 7 a.m., with races and qualifying running from 8:10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. throughout the day. A the day will culminate with a fireworks show at sundown.
Sunday’s event starts with gates opening at 7 a.m., with the green flag for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen for the TUDOR Championship taking place at 11:10 a.m.
