Sahlen's race will be at the track Saturday

WATKINS GLEN—Saturday, June 5, Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen will be held at Watkins Glen International at 2 p.m. While the mix of different classes of cars and endurance racing makes this event exciting, the addition of four-time Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson should contribute to some great racing.
The Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen marks the first time Johnson has made more than one start in a season with the GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing team and is just his second time running multiple GRAND-AM Rolex Series races in a year. The Sahlen’s Six Hour will also be Johnson’s first start in any series on the traditional 3.4-mile Grand Prix road course.
Johnson co-drove the No. 99 GAINSCO Auto Insurance Chevrolet Riley at the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona the last three years, scoring a second-place overall finish with Gurney, Fogarty and Jimmy Vasser in their debut race together in 2008. Team owner Bob Stallings has always looked to expand Johnson’s races with the team beyond the Rolex 24 and the circumstances were right for this year’s Sahlen’s Six Hours.
President of Watkins Glen International Michael Printup said “I have no doubt that Jimmie, Jon and Alex will be in the hunt for a trip to Gatorade Victory Lane come the end of the race on Saturday, June 5.” Jimmie Johnson added, “I think most people know how much I want to win on a road course and also in a GRAND-AM car. It would be pretty cool if we could pull it off.”
This may come as a challenge, however, as Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas will be competing again in the Sahlen’s race looking for their third consecutive win. They will be driving the TELMEX Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates BMW Riley. Pruett broke the track record in qualifying for last year’s race.
Another driver to watch is Max Angelelli in the SunTrust Racing Ford Dallara as he placed third in 2006, 2007 and 2008. He also placed second last year.
Fans who like being close to the action will appreciate that any admission ticket includes access to the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge garage area, GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series paddock, and two separate Fan Walks on Pit Road. There will also be a pit stop demonstration featuring the No. 60 Michael Shank Racing Daytona Prototype at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
