WATKINS GLEN--Watkins Glen International (WGI) will kick off its annual Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen starting Thursday, June 25, and running through Sunday, June 28. The entry field was expanded last year to include the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship as part of the Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup.
The TUDOR race will feature four classes of cars, including Prototype, Prototype Challenge, GT Le Mans and GT Daytona. The TUDOR United SportsCar Championship is sanctioned by the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA).
The Prototype class has an all pro driver lineup with cars specifically designed for racetracks. The Prototype Challenge class has all cars designed to the same specs, which includes an open cockpit. The GT Le Mans class features production-based cars with all pro drivers, while the GT Daytona class has enhanced production models with a pro-am driver mix.
In addition to the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship and Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, the weekend will also include Lamborghini Super Trofeo, Porsche GT3 Cup USA, and Cooper Tires Prototype Lites.
"The opportunity to interact with TUDOR Championship drivers and teams is a unique aspect of Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen," said Watkins Glen International President Michael Printup. "From the fan walks, to the autograph session, concert and fireworks, it's a fun-filled weekend for our fans."
The gates will open at 7 a.m. Thursday morning, with practice runs for the Cooper Tire Prototype Lites, the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge, the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series and the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge series running from 8 a.m. through 4:30 p.m.
Gates open once again at 7 a.m. Friday, with qualifying runs taking place from 9 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. The first race of the day will begin at 2:05 p.m., with races concluding at 6:15 p.m. The Sahlen's eighth annual Hot Dog Eating Contest will run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., with the Friday night concert running from 7:45 to 9:15 p.m., featuring Wendy Owens and Renegade, and the Tim Ruffo Band.
Saturday's gates open at 7 a.m., with races and qualifying running from 8:05 a.m. to 7:35 p.m. throughout the day. The green flag for the Continental Tire 150 is at 12:25 p.m. Saturday and will run until 2:55 p.m. The day will culminate with a fireworks show at sundown.
Sunday's event starts with gates opening at 7 a.m., with the green flag for the Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen for the TUDOR Championship taking place at 10:10 a.m. Kaplan University and WGI will be offering complimentary tickets to Sunday's race to active duty military personnel and veterans of the United States Armed Forces.
