WATKINS GLEN--The Schuyler County Legislature held the regularly scheduled monthly meeting Monday, April 9 in the legislative chambers.
The meeting included a public hearing and all resolutions were approved.
After the regular business, Chairman Dennis Fagan explained the county is expecting the final sales tax payment for the first quarter of 2018 in the next few days. So far, with two and a half months recorded, the numbers show the county is up 7.2 percent. Fagan said this was much stronger than what they saw in 2017, and given the weather, he called the numbers "pretty amazing."
During Tim O'Hearn's county administrator report, he said the county audit is currently underway and they are about a month ahead of schedule. "It is going the smoothest in 13 years," O'Hearn mentioned, referencing his anniversary, to the day, starting as administrator.
In the resolutions, there were seven requests from landowners to have acreage included in the three agricultural districts. 27.6 acres were added to district one, 304.7 to district two and 336.2 to district three.
Other resolutions included authorization of the seasonal rates at the Village Marina, declaring the month of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Schuyler County, amending policies and procedures relating to county employees performing voluntary fire and ambulance service and accepting a bid for work on the Public Safety Building Jail upgrades. The jail upgrades will cost $498,500.
Each meeting opens with a moment of silence, where this month the group remembered long-time county employee and union activist Sue Brill. Brill recently passed away in an early morning house fire.
The next meeting of the legislature is Monday, May 14 at 6:30 p.m.
