Schuyler schools announce board candidates

SCHUYLER COUNTY—A number of seats on the area school boards are open for the May 19 election.  Voters will also decide on propositions and budgets for the 2009-10 school year.
At Watkins Glen, Michael Meyers and Robert Dill’s seats are up for reelection.  Both incumbents are running and so is Joseph Palumbo.  Elections for Watkins Glen will take place outside the district office at the high school, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 19.
Clerk Sharon Clark said the board did not have a “Meet the Candidates” set up yet.  Superintendent Tom Phillips said the Parent Teacher Association organizes that.  He added though, that the board will announce the candidates at the May 5 meeting and give them time to speak then.
There are four positions open for elections at Odessa-Montour.  Two terms are for two years and the other two are for three-year terms.  Debra Harrington and Karen Rock are incumbents.  Loueda Bleiler and Alice Learn will not be running for their positions.  The other candidates are Philip Pitcher, Scott McCray, Paul LaRow, Donald Roberts Jr., and Matthew Walters.
A “Meet the Candidates” is scheduled for May 5 at 7 p.m. with the annual budget hearing.  Voting for the Odessa-Montour school district will now only take place at the H.A. Hanlon Elementary School, room 12., noon to 8 p.m.
