Schuyler Transit opens bus run to Corning

SCHUYLER COUNTY—Schuyler County Transit announced as of Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, it will offer a new, Monday through Friday public transit service to the Corning Transportation Center on Denison Parkway. This service will help connect people in Schuyler County to Corning Community College as well as the city of Corning.
The Schuyler County Transit “Corning Connections” bus stops in Schuyler County are at Tops in Watkins Glen and the Human Services Complex in Montour Falls. Two buses will stop at the Corning Transportation Center in the morning and afternoon with return trips to Watkins Glen and Montour Falls. Schedules can be found at Schuyler County Transit’s website at   www.schuylercountytransit.org, at various locations in Schuyler County and at the transportation center.
The new service enables riders to access Corning Erwin Area Transit System (CEATS) and C TRAN (formerly Chemung Transit) buses at the Corning Transportation Center for transportation to Corning Community College (CCC) and other stops made by those services.
Regular fare for the service is $2 per boarding in addition to CEATS or C TRAN fare. Beginning Feb. 1, riders may purchase Schuyler County Transit “Corning Connections” monthly passes for $50 to access CEATS and C TRAN’s CCC bus routes for no additional charge. Monthly passes for transfers to CEATS and C TRAN busses are available for purchase online on the Schuyler County Transit website and on Schuyler County Transit busses.
The additional service is made possible by The Arc of Schuyler opening its semi-fixed route transit services for people with disabilities to the general public. The Arc is a not-for-profit organization in Watkins Glen providing, among other supports to people with disabilities, transportation to and from employment and other skill development services.
“This concept of coordination of transportation services not only makes financial sense in the current fiscal environment, but it also affords more community interaction and integration for people with disabilities,” Arc of Schuyler Executive Director, Jeannette Frank said.
