Seaplanes, cars on display in Hammondsport

HAMMONDSPORT--Seaplane and car fans will have the opportunity to see many of their favorites this weekend at Depot Park and the village of Hammondsport. Events will be held Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14 and 15.
The schedule of events begins at 10 a.m. each day with the planes and cars on display. There will also be concessions and shops, along with paid seaplane rides from Finger Lakes Seaplanes LLC.
Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. visitors can see the seaplane takeoff and landing contest, as well as a competition to drop an object from the air and land it in a designated area. At 12:30 p.m. the Hammondsport Fire Department will give a demonstration of their fireboat. A seaplane salute to Glenn H. Curtiss is scheduled from 1 to 2 p.m.
Throughout the day votes can be cast by spectators for their favorite cars displayed on Shethar Street and Park Place. There will be awards each day for Favorite American Classic Car, Favorite American Exotic Car, Favorite Foreign Exotic Car, Best of Show and Kids Choice Award.
Saturday night features a special banquet for participants and guests at the Curtiss Museum. Registration is required and can be done online at www.wingsandwheelshammondsport.com/banquet.php. A cocktail hour is at 6 p.m., dinner follows at 7 p.m. and announcements, awards and the silent auction winners takes place at 8 p.m.
Sunday will have plane demonstrations, the car show and concessions from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The fireboat will show its capabilities at 12:30 p.m. and car show awards will be presented at 1:30 p.m.
A free shuttle service will operate during the show times. Off-site parking is available at the Hammondsport Central School, Glenn H. Curtiss Museum and Great Western Visitor Center. Buses will loop between these locations and the village square and waterfront.
Flying is weather dependent and events could change the day of. The plane and car shows are free to attend.
