SECTIONAL RESULTS: Watkins Glen wins; Penn Yan loses; swimmers take titles

Watkins girls advance to sectional semifinals
WATKINS GLEN-The Senecas' girls varsity basketball team topped Bainbridge-Guilford, 42-31, Saturday, Feb. 20.
With the win, Watkins advances to the Class C sectional semifinals, Wednesday, Feb. 24. Watkins record is 15-6.
Amanda Pike scored 13 points, with 10 rebounds. Mariah Gonzalez and Clara Chedzoy both added eight points, while Gonzalez recorded six rebounds. Allison Teed earned seven points. Katherine Meehan scored six.

Lady Mustangs end season
LIVONIA--The Penn Yan girls varsity basketball team lost to Livonia in the Class B1 sectional quarterfinal, Saturday, Feb. 20. The final score was 64-30. Penn Yan was seeded eighth while Livonia was first.
The girls end the season with a 7-15 record.

Tague, Doppel capture sectional titles
OWEGO--Odessa-Montour and Watkins Glen participated in the Section IV Class C swimming championships, Saturday, Feb. 20.
As a team Odessa was fourth overall and Watkins was fifth.
For Odessa, Billy Tague was the sectional champion in the 200 freestyle (1:53.09) and took third in the 500 free (5:22.25). Tony Humphries was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.66), while Andy Fudala was third (1:07.73). Caelan Haney took third in the 100 fly (1:02.55).
The 400 free relay team (Alec Betts, Haney, Humphries and Tague) finished in second place just edging out Lansing in a season best time of (3:37.15).
Watkins Glen swimmer Matt Doppel took sectional crowns in the 100 freestyle (48.45) and the 100 backstroke (53.58). Jacob Slater finished second in the Friday diving competition with a score of 276.00.
The 200 medley relay team (Doppel, Lucas Wickham, Will Fitzsimmons and Dakota Cole) finished in third (1:50.70).
