Seneca Indians finish regular season 7-1

WATKINS GLEN--The Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour Seneca Indians wrapped up their regular season with a 60-32 victory against Lansing Saturday, Oct. 24. The Seneca Indians have a 7-1 record and took the Section IV Class C Division V title with the victory. The game was also the Watkins Glen homecoming game, with Ian Chedzoy and Katherine Meehan being named the homecoming king and queen at halftime.
The Seneca Indians received the opening kickoff, with Ryan Pruitt springing a first-play 75-yard touchdown rush for an early 8-0 lead.
The Bobcats drove down the field for a score of their own, tying the game at 8-8.
Pruitt added a 29-yard rushing touchdown on fourth down to take the lead again 16-8 on their next offensive series.
The Bobcats offense drove again into Seneca Indian territory at the end of the first quarter. Lansing scored on a four-yard touchdown run early in the second, but the Seneca Indians retained a 16-14 lead after a failed two-point conversion.
Pruitt had another long 45-yard rush to the Bobcats five-yard line. An illegal motion penalty moved the Seneca Indians back to the 10, while a holding penalty set them back to the 20. The Bobcats recovered a fumble on the next play, giving them the ball on their own 12.
The defense forced a punt, scoring on a 27-yard rush by Austin Dalrymple to go up 22-14. Lansing responded with a six-yard rush to bring the score to 22-20 with 1:52 left in the half. The Seneca Indians offense scored on an 11-yard run by Jordan Rappleye to go up 30-20 at intermission.
At halftime, Ian Chedzoy and Katherine Meehan were named the homecoming king and queen. Among the candidates for king were Dakota Landon, Thomas Seaman and Lucas Wickham, while the candidates for queen included Maggie Bond, Noelle Johnson and Gianna Willsey-Moline.
The Bobcats received the second half kickoff, but turned the ball over on downs at midfield. The Seneca Indians offense capped off their next scoring drive on a two-yard rush by Rappleye to go up 36-20.
Lansing's offense mounted a 65-yard scoring drive to draw the score to 36-26 late in the third quarter.
Chedzoy scored on a long run to start the fourth quarter, bringing the lead to 44-26.
The Seneca Indians recovered their onside kick, but turned the ball over on a fumble at the Lansing 35. Lansing turned over ball on downs at their own 29, with Dalrymple taking the next play to the house, bringing the score to 52-26.
The game continued with the Seneca Indians advancing to a final score of 60-32. The Seneca Indians will play Newark Valley Saturday, Oct. 31 in the first round of sectionals.
