Senecas lose to Chenango Valley

WATKINS GLEN—The Watkins Glen boys basketball season ended Tuesday night, March 3, in the final five seconds of the game. After trailing closely most of the contest, the Senecas had the lead with under 10 seconds remaining in the game. Chenango Valley was able to pick up a lose ball and score with six seconds remaining. The Senecas were not able to move the ball upcourt under intense pressure, and the game ended with Chenango Valley up 58-57.
Thomas Cook led the Senecas with 16 points. Kris Larson had 12 points. Justin DeDominick had 10 points. Nick Phoenix and Stuart Cook each had eight points. Starting senior point guard Mark Fraboni was unable to play because of an ankle sprain sustained in the final minutes of the Senecas win in the prior game.
The Senecas trailed after the first quarter 13-14, at halftime 16-25 and at the end of the third quarter 41-42. The loss closed the Senecas season with a 19-4 record.
The Watkins Glen boys basketball team also beat Windsor, 71-66, at the Field House, Feb. 28.  Cook led the Senecas with 19 points and six rebounds. Kris Larson had 18 points. DeDominick had 17 points and nine rebounds.  Cook had nine points and four rebounds.
The Senecas led 14-13 after the first quarter, but trailed 25-30 at halftime. They regained the lead in the third quarter, going into the fourth quarter with a 42-40 lead.
The win set up a rematch with Chenango Valley, the team that knocked Watkins Glen out of sectionals last year.

Girls Basketball
The Watkins Glen girls basketball team’s season ended Feb. 27, with a 52-31 loss to top seeded, undefeated Oneonta. Oneonta led 24-1 after the first quarter, 33-8 at halftime and 46-12 after three quarters. Taylor Chaffee scored 11 points. Shelby Ganascioli had seven points. The girls ended the season with a 11-10 record.
