ROCHESTER—Dundee’s Patric Perez and Hammondsport’s Josh Snyder both earned top finishes in the Section 5 state qualifier tournament in Rochester. The state qualifier matches were held on Friday, Feb. 12 and Saturday, Feb 13 at the Rochester Institute of Technology Gordon Field House.

Perez, wrestling in the 285 pound division, won both of his matches Friday evening. His first victory was against Mike Pryce, from Sodus. His second win Friday was from Penn Yan’s Robert Galusha.
On Saturday Perez was paired against Mason Judd from Pal-Mac. Although Perez lost this match, he then went into the consolation bracket and won his next three matches for a third place overall in his weight bracket and division.

Dundee wrestlers Dustyn Thompson, Nick Raplee and Stephen Chappell also traveled to RIT to represent the Scotsmen. Thompson had an impressive finish with four wins on Saturday alone and took sixth place in his weight class.

Snyder, wrestling in the 215 pound weight class for Hammondsport, also beat both of his opponents from Friday. Then, on Saturday Snyder lost to Jon Casper, from LeRoy. Snyder went into the consolation round and won the next three matches to capture third place overall in Division 2 at the 215 pound weight class.

Colin Phillips, from Penn Yan wrestling in the 171 pound category, also finished with a strong sixth place tournament spot.

The New State Public High School Athletic Association state tournament is scheduled for Feb. 26-27 at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY. The champions from each weight class are invited to compete in Albany. Second and third place finishers may receive a wildcard into the state tournament based on a state-wide point system which will be determined early next week.
