So, how cold has it been?

FINGER LAKES—If you thought it was pretty cold for the month of February, you would be right. If you thought it was one of the coldest Februarys ever, you would be partially right.
The Northeast Regional Climate Center in Ithaca, N.Y. reports that February, 2014 finished officially as the eighth coldest February on record since 1894 for Elmira, N.Y.
This year the average temperature for the month was 19.2 degrees.
The coldest February on record is actually a tie between 1979 and 1978 with  temperature readings of 14.9 degrees for February of both years.
