SPORTS RECAP: Week of 1-17-18

Mackenzie Strait sets three-point record for Dundee
DUNDEE--The Dundee girls varsity basketball team lost to Honeoye, 67-50, in a home game, Thursday, Jan. 11.
Mackenzie Strait led with 15 points, four assists, three rebounds, and two blocks. Megan Sutherland added 13 points and two rebounds, while Hallie Knapp had nine points and six rebounds. Delaine Nolan and Brianne Maloy both scored four points, with four and three rebounds respectively. Alyssah Newell posted three points, two assists, and two steals. Makenzie Cratsley earned two points, six rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and two steals.
The Lady Scots posted a loss to Bloomfield on the road, Tuesday, Jan. 9. The final score was 59-40.
Strait scored 25 points, with three assists and two rebounds. 21 of her points came from seven three-pointers, setting a new Dundee record. Sutherland had six points with four rebounds. Cratsley added five points and eight rebounds. Vivienne Hoad and Nolan both scored two points.
Boys basketball
The Dundee boys varsity basketball team suffered a loss to Bloomfield, Wednesday, Jan. 10. The final score was 72-44.
Wylie Hall led with 14 points.
Bowling
The Dundee boys varsity bowling team blanked Waterloo, 4-0, Thursday, Jan. 11.
Collin Goodman bowled a 644. Lucas Bowden added a 593. Hunter Murphy posted a 485, while Alec Champlin had a 426. Stephan Smith earned a 346 in two games.
The girls lost, 4-0. Mercedez Roy posted a 375, followed by Erika Gould with a 348. Samantha Hunt had a 328.
The Scots' boys beat Romulus, 4-0, Wednesday, Jan. 10.
Smith posted a 536. Jared Hartman contributed a 485, while Connor Muck had a 430. Goodman had a 370 in two games.
The girls won 3-1. Roy led with a 391. Gould had a 332, while Hunt posted 312.
Wrestling
The Dundee varsity wrestling team defeated Red Jacket-Bloomfield, Tuesday, Jan. 9. The final score was 36-22.
Steven Ameigh (132) and Kenneth Empson (160) both recorded pins for Dundee.
Jaden Ault (113), Paul Knapp (120), Logan Corey (145) and Phoenix Ault (152) won with forfeits.

Penn Yan boys and girls bowling beats Honeoye
PENN YAN--The Penn Yan bowling teams blanked Honeoye, 4-0, Thursday, Jan. 11.
Zach Blauvelt led the boys with a 631. Zach Gurba followed with a 590. Jon Mashewske added a 574, while Cameron Bassage had a 557.
For the girls, Kari Ayers posted a 605. Emilie Thomas earned a 468, while Mckelvie Jensen bowled a 465. Amelia LaVea had a 371. Emily Augustine added a 329 in two games.
Girls basketball
The Lady Mustangs varsity basketball team topped Newark, 41-23, Wednesday, Jan. 10.
Jenna Curbeau scored nine points, with 14 rebounds and two steals. Joddie Decker and Sydney Bloom both had seven points. Peyton Comfort and Hannah Keech each added six points and eight rebounds. Emma Harling posted four points and 10 rebounds, while Ashley Sisson had two points and two rebounds.
Penn Yan lost to Midlakes, Monday, Jan. 8. The final score was 73-42.
Decker led with 16 points, five steals, and four rebounds. Bloom followed with 14 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks. Harling and Comfort posted four points, with eight and seven rebounds respectively. Curbeau added three points and 10 rebounds. Keech scored one point, with three assists.
Boys basketball
The Penn Yan boys varsity basketball team defeated Newark, Tuesday, Jan. 9. The final score was 61-36.
Desmond Battin led the team with 21 points.
Wrestling
The Penn Yan varsity wrestling team fell to Geneva, 57-30, Tuesday, Jan. 9.
Jarred Calice (138) pinned Tyqwan Coles in 1:56. Nate Elliott (152) beat Jayson Wassouf in 3:01. Alvaro Chavez (182) defeated A.J. Rhinehart in 2:38. Ayden Mowry (99) and Coty Bailey (160) won by forfeit.

Hammondsport beats Alfred-Almond
HAMMONDSPORT--Hammondsport's girls varsity basketball team topped Alfred-Almond, 40-28, Wednesday, Jan. 10.
McKenzie Boscoe scored 26 points, with eight rebounds. TeĆ” Flynn added seven points and nine rebounds. Destiny Hammond posted three points, six rebounds, and three assists. Deonna Deal and Paige MacDonald both added two points.
The Lakers fell to Lyons, 50-39, Monday, Jan. 8.
Boscoe led with 19 points and seven rebounds. Hammond added 10 points and five rebounds. Flynn posted six points, while Kelsey Hoyt and Megan Allen both had two points.
Boys basketball
The Lakers' boys varsity basketball team topped Alfred Almond, 52-28, Tuesday, Jan. 9. Brayden Whitcomb was the points leader with 15 and 26 rebounds.
Hammondsport fell to Romulus, Monday, Jan. 8. The final score was 50-47.
Dillan Conley scored 18 points, including four three-point shots, seven steals, and five assists. Cameron Roote netted 10 points. Whitcomb had eight points and had 13 rebounds.

Houseknecht wins at Watkins Glen tournament
WATKINS GLEN--The Odessa-Montour varsity wrestling team placed ninth at the Mike Watson Invitational held at Watkins Glen, Friday, Jan. 12, and Saturday, Jan. 13.
The Indians' Dylan Houseknecht won the championship for the 285 weight class. He beat South Seneca's Quinton Mundell by decision, 1-0 in triple overtime.
Jeremiah Lynch (160) placed third, while Jacob Zimmer (152) finished fourth. Andrew Hartford (126), Collin Haag (138), and Daniel Minier (160) all took fifth for Odessa.
Odessa-Montour defeated Groton, 40-24, Wednesday, Jan. 10.
Hartford (132), Haag (138), Zimmer (152), Lynch (160), Minnier (182) and Houseknecht (285) all recorded wins. Josiah Lynch (120) won by forfeit.
Girls basketball
The Odessa-Montour girls varsity basketball team lost to Elmira Notre Dame, 52-24, Friday, Jan. 12.
Gillian Clark scored 11 points. The Indians topped Watkins Glen, 57-46, Wednesday, Jan. 10.
Clark led with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Olivia Grover added 19 points, 12 rebounds, and five blocks. Nakiaha Robinson followed with 12 points and four assists. Sara Gardner added three points. Kennedey Heichel earned one point and seven assists. Grace Vondracek also had seven rebounds.
Boys basketball
The Odessa-Montour boys varsity basketball team lost to Watkins Glen, 45-37, Tuesday, Jan. 9.
Curtis Harris led with 14 points. Zach Elliott posted 10 points, while Noah Austin had five points. Brandon Ray and Derrick Lewis both scored three points. Noah Angle added two.
Bowling
The Odessa-Montour varsity bowling teams lost to Tioga, Thursday, Jan. 11.
The girls fell 3-1. Jackie Vincent had a 455, while Jana Arias added a 414. Ashley Stewart bowled a 405. Madison Randall and Kacie Wood both posted 399.
The boys were beaten 4-0. Eric Rumsey bowled a 538. Andrew Ink had a 436. Jesse Jordan earned a 424. Colton Chapman added a 391.
The Indians lost to Thomas A. Edison, 4-0, Monday, Jan. 8.
Rumsey led the boys with a 628. Andrew Ink added 492.
Pixie Kinner had a 438. Arias contributed a 420, followed by Wood with a 363.
Boys swimming
Odessa-Montour's boys varsity swim team topped Dryden, 58-35, Thursday, Jan. 11.
Cameron Adams took first in the 200 free (2:10.10) and the 500 free (6:01.99). Alec Betts won the 200 IM (2:25.29) and the 100 breaststroke (1:14.52). Billy Tague placed first in the 50 free (23.88) and the 100 free (52.66). Jake Mayette won the 100 fly (1:07.75), while Brett Walters took first in the 100 backstroke (1:11.80).
The 200 medley relay team (Betts, Tague, Mayette, and Bailey Hornbrook) was first in 1:55.76. The 200 free relay team (Brett Walters, Johnny Neidermaier, Bailey Hornbrook, and Cameron Adams) was first with 1:50.45. The 400 free relay team (Tague, Mayette, Walters, and Betts) also placed first in 3:58.25.
The Indians' swim team beat Greene, 106-55, in a non-league meet, Tuesday, Jan. 9.
Betts placed first in the 500 free (5:42.13, a personal record) and the 100 backstroke (1:07.36, a personal record). Tague finished first in the 200 IM (2:13.84) and the 100 breaststroke (1:08.28). Mayette was first in the 100 fly 1:05.43, a personal record).
The 200 medley relay team of Betts, Tague, Mayette and Walters placed first in 1:55.88. The 400 free relay team of Betts, Walters, Mayette, and Tague also won with 3:53.46.

Watkins Glen hosts Mike Watson Invitational
WATKINS GLEN--The Watkins Glen varsity wrestling team hosted the annual Mike Watson Invitational, Friday, Jan. 12, and Saturday, Jan. 13.
Watkins' top finisher was Kameryn Sheldon (220), placing second in the championship round. Sheldon finished the tournament 1-1. Dawson Wade (113) was fourth with a 2-2 record. Dalton Cummings (182) finished fifth, also going 2-2.
Girls basketball
The Watkins Glen girls varsity basketball team defeated Candor, 65-42, in an away game, Thursday, Jan. 11.
Taylor Kelly led with 25 points, including four three-point shots and six rebounds. Ryanna LaMoreaux scored 14 points, with three steals, three blocks, and three assists. Emmie Bond posted 11 points and four rebounds, while Danielle Leszyk added eight points and three rebounds.
With the win, Watkins' record is 10-2.
Watkins Glen fell to Odessa-Montour, 57-46, Wednesday, Jan. 10.
Kelly had 16 points, six rebounds, and two steals. LaMoreaux added 15 points, including a trio of three-point shots and five rebounds. Makenna Fraboni posted seven points, while Leszyk had six. Bond scored three, with Hannah Morse and Clara Chedzoy both adding two points.
Boys basketball
The Watkins Glen boys varsity basketball team topped Candor, 47-36, Thursday, Jan. 11.
Michael Doane led with 14 points. Dayne Hughey added 10 points and 17 rebounds. Alex Schimizzi also posted 10 points, with seven rebounds and three steals.
The Senecas beat Odessa-Montour, Tuesday, Jan. 9. The final score was 45-37.
Joe Chedzoy had 17 points. Hughey posted seven points, 15 rebounds, and two steals. Doane added seven points.
Boys swimming
The Watkins' boys varsity swim team fell to Southern Cayuga, 86-35, Thursday, Jan. 11.
Nathaniel Wickham finished first in the 100 free (59.41) and second in the 50 free (24.41). Scott Brubaker took first in the 100 breaststroke (1:29.91, a personal record). Jacob Asbury placed third in the 200 free (2:40.09, a personal record).
