SPORTS RECAP: Week of 1-31-18

Penn Yan wrestling team defeats Dundee 42-36
DUNDEE--The Penn Yan varsity wrestling team beat Dundee, 42-36, Friday, Jan. 26.
Damien Snyder (126) topped Haille Empson with a pin in 2:59. Jarred Calice (138) beat Trenton Lane in 2:50 with a pin. Nate Elliott (152) pinned Phoenix Ault in 0:31. Coty Bailey (160) defeated Kenneth Empson with a pin in 1:49. Alvaro Chavez (182) pinned Leif Hoyt in 2:46.
Ayden Mowry and Roshana Brewer won by forfeit.
Bowling
The Penn Yan girls varsity bowling team blanked Dundee, 4-0, Thursday, Jan. 25.
Kari Ayers led with a 646. Emily Augustine followed with 484. Brandee Ellis earned a 426.
The boys lost, 4-0. Zach Blauvelt led with 628. Jon Mashewske had a 551, while Cameron Bassage added a 519.
Girls basketball
The Penn Yan girls varsity basketball team topped Waterloo, Friday, Jan. 26. The final score was 54-37. Individual stats were not reported.
The Lady Mustangs fell to Mynderse, 61-48, Wednesday, Jan. 24.
Sydney Bloom earned 18 points with three rebounds. Jenna Curbeau and Emma Harling both posted seven points and 10 rebounds. Logan Broome, Hannah Keech, and Ashley Sisson each scored four points. Keech also had six rebounds and four assists, while Sisson contributed seven rebounds. Joddie Decker and Peyton Comfort both added two points.
Boys basketball
The Penn Yan boys varsity basketball team lost to Mynderse, 47-36, in a home game Saturday, Jan. 27.
Dylan Stape led with 14 points. Desmond Battin scored 10 points. Ben Emerson added eight points, with two three-point shots. Cade Curbeau posted four points.
The Mustangs' basketball team topped Waterloo, 62-32, Friday, Jan. 26.
Stape scored 19 points. Battin posted 13 points, while Emerson had 11. Derrick Rivello added seven points. Conner Fingar had six. Schuck earned four points and Will Rogers scored two.

Dundee loses to Romulus; boys bowling tops Penn Yan
DUNDEE--Dundee's girls varsity basketball team lost to Romulus, 61-38, Thursday, Jan. 25.
Mackenzie Strait led with 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Megan Sutherland scored eight points, with four rebounds. Alyssah Newell added four points and two rebounds. Makenzie Cratsley, Delaine Nolan, and Brianne Maloy each added two points. Cratsley also earned six rebounds.
Boys Basketball
The Dundee boys varsity team lost to Romulus, Friday, Jan. 26 on the road. The final score was 56-40.
Austin Gibson recorded 18 points.
Wrestling
The Dundee varsity wrestling team placed 14th at the Jack Fisher Newark Invitational Wrestling Tournament, Saturday, Jan. 27.
Leif Hoyt (182) placed fourth. Haille Empson (126) and Tate Hoyt (220) took sixth overall. Logan Corey (145) finished seventh, while Jaden Ault (113) was eighth. Ethan Rexford (170) took 10th.
The wrestling team lost to Penn Yan, Friday, Jan. 26. The score was 42-36.
Steven Ameigh (132) pinned Mason Bishop in 0:32.
Paul Knapp, Corey, Rexford, Tate Hoyt and Joseph Dillon won with forfeits.
Bowling
The Dundee boys varsity bowling team topped Penn Yan, 4-0, Thursday, Jan. 25.
Alec Chapman led with a 620, including a 266 in his third game. Collin Goodman added a 585, followed by Lucas Bowden with a 576.
The girls fell 4-0. Edele Morgan posted a 379. Samantha Hunt added a 347. Mercedez Roy earned a 334. Jaedyn Brewer bowled a 324.

Hammondsport defeats Jasper-Troupsburg
HAMMONDSPORT--The Hammondsport boys varsity basketball team defeated Jasper-Troupsburg, Tuesday, Jan. 23. The final score was 51-50.
Parker Watson led the Lakers with 17 points, four assists, and six rebounds. Luke Atkinson netted 12 points with four assists and three steals.
Girls basketball
The Hammondsport girls varsity basketball team fell to Whitesville, 53-20, Friday, Jan. 26.
Paige MacDonald scored five points, with seven rebounds. Megan Allen and Deonna Deal both had four points. Allen also earned five rebounds. TeĆ” Flynn and McKenzie Boscoe each scored three points, with Flynn posting 10 rebounds. Destiny Hammond contributed one point and four rebounds.
The Lakers lost to Jasper-Troupsburg, Wednesday, Jan. 24. The final score was 64-38. Boscoe led with 20 points and seven rebounds. Hammond added eight points and five rebounds. Deal and Allen each posted two points.

Odessa competes at invitational, celebrates seniors
WAVERLY--The Odessa-Montour boys varsity swim team placed sixth at the Wolverine Invitational, Saturday, Jan. 27.
Billy Tague led the team with a fourth place finish in the 500 free (5:07.11, a personal best) and a fifth place finish in the 200 free (1:54.48). Alec Betts also made podium by taking eighth place in both the 200 IM (2:17.10, a personal best) and the 100 Breast (1:11.99).
The 200 medley relay team of Betts, Tague, Jake Mayette, and Brett Walters took fourth in 1:51.28. The 200 free relay team of Mayette, Bailey Hornbrook, Cameron Adams, and Micah Brewster finished sixth in 1:44.32. The 400 free relay team of Tague, Hornbrook, Walters, and Betts was sixth with a season-best time of 3:42.56.
Adams was 14th in the 200 free (2:05.97, a personal record) and 16th in the 500 free (5:48.31, a personal record). Walters placed 15th in the 50 free (25.31) and 16th in the 100 free (57.33). Mayette took 15th in the 100 fly (1:06.08).
"The meet had very good competition and the team stepped up to the challenge, with many of them swimming events that differed from what they swam last weekend in Elmira," said Coach Terri Brace. "It was a great opportunity to fine tune before we enter into the championship season."
The swim team topped Greene, 60-30, Friday, Jan. 26.
Adams placed first in the 200 free (2:06.07, a personal record) and 500 free (5:56.22). Betts won the 200 IM (2:24.24) and 100 backstroke (1:07.98). Walters was first in the 50 free (25.21) and 100 free (59.27). Tague finished first in the 100 fly (56.76, a personal record) and 100 breaststroke (1:04.10).
Johnny Niedermaier took second in the 50 free (27.92, a personal record). Mayette finished second in the 100 fly (1:07.90).
The 200 medley relay team (Betts, Tague, Mayette, and Walters) was first in 1:54.17. The 200 free relay team (Mayette, Hornbrook, Brewster, and Niedermaier) took first in 1:46.32. The 400 free relay team (Adams, Betts, Walters, and Tague) finished first in 3:49.01.
Girls basketball
The Indians' girls varsity basketball team beat Candor, Thursday, Jan. 25. The final score was 55-45.
Olivia Grover led with a season high of 25 points, as well as 12 rebounds. Gillian Clark scored 10 points. Kennedey Heichel and Sara Gardner both added six points. Grace Vondracek earned four, while Alexis Saunders had three points and Nakiaha Robinson one.
Boys basketball
The Odessa-Montour boys varsity basketball team beat Candor 48-43, Thursday, Jan. 25.
Zach Elliott scored 14 points, was 8-for-15 at the free throw line, and had 16 rebounds. Curtis Harris had 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Noah Austin earned 11 points and seven rebounds. Noah Angle added five points. Brandon Ray posted three points and Preston Harris two.
Wrestling
The Odessa-Montour varsity wrestling team placed fifth at the Red Devil Duals, Saturday, Jan. 27.
The Indians tied with Chenango Forks for fifth, both with a 2-3 record for the event. Odessa beat Chittenango, 40-24, and Syracuse, 45-18, but lost to Vernon-Verona-Sherrill, 66-22; Homer, 65-21; and Canajoharie-Fort Plain, 36-30.
Dylan Houseknecht received four forfeits and had one competitive victory.

Planty sets record in the 1000 meter
HOUGHTON--The Watkins Glen varsity indoor track team competed at the Houghton College Invitational, Saturday, Jan. 27.
Gabe Planty placed fifth in the 1000 meter (2:40.68), breaking the school record previously held by Patrick Hazlitt (2:41.53). Aaron Planty also finished sixth in the same race with a time of 2:42.48.
Megan Hazlitt finished 19th in the 600 meter (1:56.12, a personal best). Josh UpDyke was 22nd in the 55 meter (7.11). Allison Gibson was 23rd in the 55 meter (8.09) and ran her first 300 meter run in 48.8.
Isobel Scheffey placed 24th in the 55 meter (8.11). Max Evans took 28th in the 600 meter (1:36.95). The 4x200 relay team of Breanna Carl, Gibson, Hazlitt, and Scheffey posted a season best of 2:08.47, just 1.6 seconds off the school record.
Boys basketball
The Senecas' boys varsity basketball team fell to Spencer-Van Etten, Friday, Jan. 26. The final score was 54-37. Dayne Hughey scored 11 points. Isaac McIlroy had nine points.
Girls basketball
The Watkins Glen girls varsity basketball team defeated Spencer-Van Etten, 48-33, Friday, Jan. 26.
Hannah Morse led with 12 points, nine rebounds, and three steals. Taylor Kelly had nine points, five rebounds, three steals, and three assists. Emmie Bond contributed eight points and six rebounds. Clara Chedzoy added seven points and eight rebounds, while Ryanna LaMoreaux scored six points. Jena Slater posted four points.
