SPORTS RECAP: Week of 10-14-20

Penn Yan Girls Tennis
The Penn Yan girls tennis team defeated Newark 5-0, Friday, Oct. 9.
In singles, Molly Pullen and Claire Pullen won 10-0, while Abigail Garvey won by forfeit.
In doubles, Jayden Hollister and Sydney Moravec won 10-2. Grace Swarthout and Abby Bodine won with a 10-6 final score.
The girls also swept Naples, 5-0, Monday, Oct. 5.
Molly and Claire Pullen along with Garvey won their singles matches.
The doubles teams won 10-1 (Hollister and Moravec) and 10-6 (Swarthout and Bodine).

Penn Yan Girls Soccer
The Penn Yan girls varsity soccer team defeated Mynderse, Saturday, Oct. 10. The final score was 5-1. Hayley Andersen had four goals with assists from Sierra Harrison, Sam Lane-Tomion and Marrianna Dalglish. Hailey Hassos rounded out the scoring with an assist by Morgan Andersen. Elle Harrison made five saves for the Lady Mustangs.
The girls also defeated Waterloo, 4-0, Wednesday, Oct. 7. Hayley Andersen scored twice with assists from Sierra Harrison and Elle Harrison. Hassos and Sierra Harrison also each scored once. Elle Harrison added nine saves.
Penn Yan is now 3-0 on the season.

Penn Yan Boys Soccer
Penn Yan's boys soccer team was defeated by Wayne, 1-0, Thursday, Oct. 8. The Mustangs had three shots on goal to Wayne's 24.
Mason MacKerchar had 15 saves for Penn Yan.

Penn Yan Cross Country
The Penn Yan cross country team competed at Newark, Saturday, Oct. 10.
For the girls, Jaina Doyle was ninth in 27:24.56. Adriana Rodriguez took 13th with a 29:20.33, while Lexi Smith was 19th with a 31:34.35.
In the boys race, James Tette was second in 18:30.92. Aven Foster took sixth with a 20:21.73. Zachary Smith was 16th and had a time of 22:17.24.
Earlier in the week, Joddie Decker won for the girls at Dundee and Doyle was third. Tette and Foster were second and fourth for the boys.

Penn Yan Golf
The Penn Yan golf team lost to Waterloo, 236-245, Wednesday, Oct. 7. Max Brodmann shot a 42 with a birdie on hole number two.
The golfers also lost to Geneva, 203-236, Monday, Oct. 5. Clayton Koivuniemi shot a 44 and Griffin Emerson had a birdie on number six with a total of 48.

Dundee Girls Soccer
The Dundee/Bradford girls varsity soccer team fell to Naples, 5-1, Wednesday, Oct. 7. Brieonna Bayer scored with an assist by Madison Hughes. Kirsta Sleve made 14 saves.

Dundee Boys Soccer
Naples topped the Dundee/Bradford boys soccer team, Thursday, Oct. 8. The final score was 4-2. Individual scoring statistics for Dundee were not provided.

Dundee Cross Country
The Dundee cross country team competed at Waterloo, Saturday Oct. 10.
Gabe Dillon led the boys in 11th place with a 20:15. Camden Buchanan was 16th in 21:00. Jacob Shimer and Devon Grandall were 31st and 33rd respectively with 26:35 and 26:42 times.
Alissa Eaves was 10th (25:51) in the girls competition. Rachael Butler finished 24th (30:37) and Renae Gregory was 27th (32:46).

Hammondsport
Steuben County had an increase in COVID-19 cases last week causing many sports contests in the county to be postponed.
The cross country team looks forward to a Tuesday meet in Addison and a home meet on Friday this week.
The boys soccer team plays Wednesday and Friday this week, while the girls soccer team plays Tuesday and Thursday.
