SPORTS RECAP: Week of 12-18-19

Odessa boys top Tioga; girls beat Addison
ODESSA--The Odessa-Montour boys basketball team defeated Tioga 52-21, Friday, Dec. 13. The Indians put constant defensive pressure on Tioga, holding them to only four points in the first quarter.
Paden Grover, Jared Rumsey and Devon Mahaney each had eight points.
Girls basketball
The Odessa-Montour girls varsity basketball team won against Addison, 46-38, Thursday, Dec. 12.
Kara Reese scored 14 points, including a pair of three-point shots to secure the lead, all in the second half. Sara Gardner earned 12 points. JoLynn Minnier posted seven points and six rebounds. Grace Vondracek earned five points and 12 rebounds. Autumn Garrison added four points. Mallory Rhodes and Ida Sidle both had two points.
The Indians topped Spencer-Van Etten, 41-26, Tuesday, Dec. 10.
Gardner led with 27 points, including seven three-point shots. Both accomplishments are career-highs for Gardner. Vondracek posted nine points, 10 rebounds, and seven steals. Reese and Garrison both earned two points, while Jessica Carnes had one point.
Boys swimming
The Indians' boys varsity swim team lost to Waverly, 63-31, Thursday, Dec. 12.
Jacob Mayette finished second in the 50 yard freestyle (25.14) and second in the 100 yard butterfly (1:07.13). Micah Brewster placed second in the 200 yard freestyle (2:15.79).
Bailey Hornbrook took second in the 200 yard individual medley (2:45.88). Brett Walters was second in the 500 yard freestyle (6:06.26). Brock Sgrecci was second in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:16.97).
Justin Roucco finished third in the 100 yard backstroke (1:14.92) and third in the 100 yard freestyle (1:00.18). Caleb Thomas took third in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:16.97).
The Indians defeated Dryden, 103-44, Tuesday, Dec. 10.
The 200 medley relay team (Walters, Sgrecci, Mayette, and Thomas) was first in 1:58.61. The 400 free relay team (Mayette, Brewster, Roucco, and Walters) finished first in 4:15.89.
Brewster placed first in the 200 freestyle (2:19.46) and first in the 500 freestyle (6.31.24). Walters took first in the 100 freestyle (56.65) and first in the 100 backstroke (1:13.97).
Mayette placed first in the 200 individual medley (3:37.33). Thomas finished first in the 50 freestyle (27.57). Sgrecci was first in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.48).
Wrestling
The Odessa-Montour/Watkins Glen varsity wrestling team lost to Moravia, 42-37, Wednesday, Dec. 11.
Joshua Beckley (182) beat AJ Lawton in 3:51. Kadin Burnham (120) pinned Breana Hatch in 0:40. Morgan Burnham (106) and Mark Waterman (132) won by forfeit.
Josiah Lynch (138) topped Colin Famoly in 0:35. Kaden LaBar (152) defeated Ed Sisson by major decision, 18-8. Braiden Ventra (170) won against Garrett Kuhn by decision, 5-2.
Bowling
Odessa's girls varsity bowling team won against Watkins Glen, 3-1, Thursday, Dec. 12.
Jana Arias bowled a 423. Taryn Hoyt added a 378. Courtney Davis and Sara Barr both posted a 345. Hannah Barr earned a 321.
The boys lost 4-0. Austin Hoyt had a 451. Eric Rumsey followed with a 440. Dom Elliott posted a 414.

Indoor track competes at Ithaca Bomber Invitational
ITHACA--The Watkins Glen/Dundee varsity indoor track team competed at the Ithaca Bomber Invitational, Saturday, Dec. 14.
Nick Wilston set a Watkins Glen and combined team record in the triple jump at 40'7", placing seventh overall. Boyd Barber set a Watkins Glen and combined team record in the 25 pound hammer throw at 29'2".
Lily Hall finished fifth in the long jump with a Dundee and combined school record of 16'4". Matt Wood placed sixth in the 600 meter for a Dundee record of 1:30.9.
Boys swimming
The Watkins Glen boys varsity swim team lost to Southern Cayuga, 58-36, Thursday, Dec. 12.
Liam Smith took first in the 200 yard individual medley (2:48.37) and second in the 500 yard freestyle (6:58.63). Ben Swinnerton was first in the 500 yard freestyle (6:57.53) and second in the 200 yard individual medley (3:00.78).
Scott Brubaker was second in the 200 yard freestyle (2:27.78) and second in the 100 yard butterfly (1:29.53). Daine Butler placed second in the 100 yard freestyle (1:02.88) and second in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:24.16). Jordan Avery finished second in the 100 yard backstroke (1:25.47).
Girls basketball
The Watkins Glen girls varsity basketball team lost to Waverly in an away game, Thursday, Dec. 12. The final score was 49-29.
Kelsey Kernan led with eight points, four rebounds, one steal, and one block. Jenna Solomon contributed five points, four rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Adrienna Solomon, Mattie Yontz, Carly Arnold, and Natalie Edmister all added three points.
Boys Basketball
The Watkins Glen boys basketball team won against Edison, Tuesday, Dec. 10. The final score was 74-66. No additional stats were provided.
Wrestling
The Odessa-Montour/Watkins Glen varsity wrestling team lost to Moravia, 42-37, Wednesday, Dec. 11.

The girls lost 3-1. Alyiah Clink-Bentley had a 403. Makenzie Kellogg posted a 375.

Dundee travels to Waterloo; girls basketball wins
WATERLOO--Dundee's varsity wrestling team placed fifth in the Waterloo Duals, Saturday, Dec. 14.
The Scots' wrestling team lost to South Seneca, 65-24, Thursday, Dec. 12.
Kenneth Empson Jr. (195) beat Simon Appleby in 1:48. Harvey Tongate (99), Michael Eaves (106), and Tate Hoyt (220) won by forfeit.
Girls basketball
The Dundee girls varsity basketball team topped South Seneca, 38-36, Thursday, Dec. 12.
"It was a thrilling game with Dundee finding itself down 25-18 at half time," said Coach Michael Strait. "The Lady Scots fought back and were only down 31-30 at the end of the third quarter. The lead changed hands multiple times in the fourth quarter."
Mackenzie Strait led with 13 points and two assists. Hallie Knapp earned 11 points and eight rebounds. Alexandria Wood added seven points, eight rebounds, and three steals. Makenzie Cratsley posted five points, seven rebounds, and four steals. Savannah Eaves contributed two points and three rebounds.
"It was a huge win for the Lady Scots as it's been at least five years since they've beaten South Seneca," added Strait.
Boys basketball
Dundee's boys varsity basketball team won a close game against South Seneca, Thursday, Dec. 12. The final score was 69-66.
Steven Webster led the team with 16 points. Logan Salvatore added 15. Peyton Boudinot scored seven of his 13 points in the fourth quarter.
The Scots topped Honeoye, 55-50, in an away game, Tuesday, Dec. 10.
Salvatore and Webster both had 16 points.
Indoor track
The Watkins Glen/Dundee varsity indoor track team competed at the Ithaca Bomber Invitational, Saturday, Dec. 14.
Lily Hall placed fifth in the long jump with a school record of 16'4". Matt Wood took sixth in the 600 meter, a record of 1:30.9.
Bowling
The Scots' boys and girls varsity bowling teams both beat Honeoye, 5-0, Tuesday, Dec. 10.
Stephen Smith led the boys with a 609. Austin States followed with a 439. Austin Ayers had a 340, while Aaron Bruzda earned a 334. Justin Keech posted a 329.
For the girls, Jaedyn Brewer had a 403. Kayla Andrews posted a 386.

Penn Yan girls lose to Midlakes; boys win 51-45
PENN YAN--The Lady Mustangs varsity basketball team was beaten by Midlakes, Friday, Dec. 13. The final score was 60-45.
Jenna Curbeau scored 14 points, with 11 rebounds. Sam Lane-Tomion added 11 points, followed by Ashley Sisson with six points and eight rebounds. Jammie Decker posted four points, nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Sierra Harrison also scored four points with three rebounds. Hayley Andersen and Joddie Decker both scored three points.
Boys basketball
The Mustangs' boys varsity basketball team topped Midlakes, 51-45, Friday, Dec. 13.
David DeSorbo led with 11 points, going 3-for-4 at the free throw line. Peter Nicholson scored 10 points. Kyle Berna added nine points. Devon Gerhardt and Mason Kuver both posted five points, while Dominic Lafferty and Justice Jones each added four points. Brennan Prather scored three points.
Wrestling
The Marcus Whitman/Penn Yan varsity wrestling team took second at the Waterloo Duals, Saturday, Dec. 14. The combined wrestling team finished with a 4-1 record.
The Marcus Whitman/Penn Yan team beat Geneva, 53-30, Thursday, Dec. 12.
Ayden Mowry (120) won against Aiden Cupelli by technical fall, 19-3. Zach Durgan (126) pinned Aiden Fallo in 3:16. Evan Gray (132) beat Travis Arno in 1:08. Jayden Reid (138) topped Sean Mathews in 1:52.
Jaxson Judd (99), David Young (106), Nathaniel Nichols (113), Justin Smith (160), and Brendan Hawley (170) all won by forfeit.
Bowling
The Penn Yan varsity bowling teams both lost to Newark, Tuesday, Dec. 10.
The boys lost, 4-1. Ben Broome had a 580. Zach Gurba followed with a 533. Trevor Harris earned a 526, while Jon Mashewske had a 515. Cameron Bassage posted a 505.
The girls fell, 5-0. Anella Tillman posted a 512. Brandee Ellis scored a 477. Andy Kniffin had a 434, while Amelia LeVea earned a 403.
Both the Penn Yan boys and girls defeated Geneva, 5-0, Monday, Dec. 9.
For the boys, Bassage had a 571. Broome earned a 338 in two games, followed by Colin Johnson with a 336. Trevor Harris added a 326. Mashewske posted a 319.
Kniffin led the girls with a 540. Ellis contributed a 525. Tillman added a 489. Jensen posted a 437.

Lakers lose two games
PRATTSBURGH--The Hammondsport girls varsity team lost to Prattsburgh/Avoca, Tuesday, Dec. 10. The final score was 66-46.
Boys basketball
The Laker's boys varsity basketball team lost to Prattsburgh, 82-51, Wednesday, Dec. 11.
The high scorer for the Lakers was Ian MacDonald with 15 points.
