SPORTS RECAP: Week of 12-25-19

Combined wrestling team wins two matches
Editor's Note: Due to early holiday deadlines, sports reports go up to Thursday, Dec. 19. The Jan. 8 edition will include the game reports after the deadline.
The Marcus Whitman/Penn Yan varsity wrestling team defeated Caledonia-Mumford, Thursday, Dec. 19. The score was 60-25.
Evan Gray (126) pinned Joey Baumgart in 1:49. Damien Snyder (145) recorded a pin in 0:15 against Gavin Greene. Chad Smith (152) and Austin Smith (182) also had competitive wins with pins in 4:56 and 1:27, respectively.
A number of forfeits were also recorded for MWPY. Mason Petersen, Kendra Champlin, David Young, Ayden Mowry, Mason Bishop and Justin Smith all gained points for the team.
The wrestling team beat Wayne, 41-36, Tuesday, Dec. 17.
Young (106) topped Ryan Harris. Nathaniel Nichols (113) won by forfeit. Mowry (120) beat Cael Lawson by major decision, 19-6.
Jayden Reid (145) pinned Aiden Hresent. Justin Smith (170) won against Dakota Tigue. Austin Smith (195) defeated Ryan Stone.
Colton Yerkes (220) beat Jonah Pullen by major decision, 10-1. Mason Petersen (285) won against Dominick Sacco by decision, 4-1.
Boys basketball
The Mustangs' boys varsity basketball team lost to Newark, 56-48, Tuesday, Dec. 17.
Devon Gerhardt led with 18 points, all three-point shots. Kyle Berna scored 11 points. Brennan Prather posted six points. Dominic Lafferty added five points. Mason Kuver had three points, while David DeSorbo and Peter Nicholson had two points each.
Girls basketball
The Lady Mustangs varsity basketball team topped Newark, 47-35, Wednesday, Dec. 18.
Sierra Harrison scored 16 points, with two assists and two blocks. Jenna Curbeau posted nine points, six steals, four rebounds, and three assists. Ashley Sisson added seven points and seven rebounds. Joddie Decker earned six points and four rebounds. Jammie Decker contributed three points, eight rebounds, and two blocks. Sam Lane-Tomion also had three points, with two rebounds. Hayley Andersen scored two points, two assists, and two rebounds.
Bowling
The Penn Yan girls and boys varsity bowling teams beat Waterloo, Tuesday, Dec. 17.
The girls won 5-0. Anella Tillman led with a 533. Andy Kniffin recorded a 512, followed by Mckelvie Jensen with a 510. Brandee Ellis added a 420.
The boys won 4-1. Cameron Bassage had a 644. Trevor Harris bowled a 629, while Jon Mashewske posted a 613. Ben Broome added a 536. Trenton Samatulski had a 517.

Dundee girls basketball loses one, wins one
The Dundee girls varsity basketball team fell to Red Jacket, Tuesday, Dec. 17. The final score was 39-24.
Through three quarters, the score was tied 24-24. However, Coach Michael Strait said "Dundee ran out of gas in the fourth quarter and couldn't muster any points."
Makenzie Cratsley led Dundee with 15 points, three rebounds, and three steals. Hallie Knapp added seven points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
The Lady Scots topped Campbell-Savona, 58-14, Monday, Dec. 16.
Knapp led with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Cratsley added 11 points and 14 rebounds. Ally Wood posted 10 points. Mackenzie Strait had nine points, four rebounds, and six assists. Trisha Edmister earned eight points and seven rebounds.
Boys basketball
The Dundee boys varsity basketball team was beaten by Red Jacket in an away game, Tuesday, Dec. 17. The final score was 68-37.
Bowling
The Scots' girls varsity bowling team defeated Romulus, 4-1, Thursday, Dec. 19.
Cassie Morrissette led with a 438. Kayla Andrews followed with a 431. Sam Hunt posted a 423. Claudya Lyons had a 408, while Cheyenne Cummings added a 405.
The boys fell, 4-1. Stephen Smith posted a 520. Austin States added a 498. Aaron Bruzda contributed a 406. Bryan Merrill followed with a 340. Justin Keech had a 318.
Dundee's girls beat Harley Allendale Columbia, 5-0, Tuesday, Dec. 17.
Jaedyn Brewer had a 460. Andrews posted a 434.
The boys lost, 4-1. States bowled a 569. Smith had a 441. Bruzda earned a 360. Bryan Merrill scored 320. Keech and Aaron Ayers both contributed a 297.

Hammondsport wins, 77-33
HAMMONDSPORT--The Hammondsport boys varsity basketball team defeated Arkport-Canaseraga, 77-33, Tuesday, Dec. 17.
Ian MacDonald scored 21 points. Zak Davis posted 18 points.
Girls basketball
The Hammondsport girls varsity basketball team beat Arkport-Canaseraga, 49-46, Wednesday, Dec. 18.
The Lakers topped Houghton Academy in an away game, Monday, Dec. 16 The final score was 41-35.

Newfield tops Odessa-Montour girls; boys lose
The Odessa-Montour girls varsity basketball team lost to Newfield, Friday, Dec. 20, 52-36.
Grace Vondracek recorded 11 points for the Indians. JoLynn Minnier and Sara Gardner both had 8 points each. Minnier also grabbed 16 rebounds.
Boys basketball
The Odessa-Montour boys varsity basketball team lost to Candor in a home game, Wednesday, Dec. 18. The final score was 66-38.
The Indians basketball team fell to Bradford, 67-55, Monday, Dec. 16.
Boys swimming
The Indians' boys varsity swim team lost to Southern Cayuga, 54-40, Wednesday, Dec. 18.
The 400 yard freestyle relay team (Jacob Mayette, Micah Brewster, Justin Ruocco, and Evan Underdown) took first in 4:20.76. The 200 yard medley relay team (Ruocco, Caleb Thomas, Bailey Hornbrook, and Brewster) finished second with 2:02.61. The 200 yard freestyle relay team (Ruocco, Thomas, Hornbrook, and Brewster) was second in 2:02.61.
Brett Walters won the 100 yard freestyle (56.88). Jon Spencer was second in the 200 yard individual medley. Thomas placed second in the 50 yard freestyle (27.50).
Mayette took second in the 100 yard butterfly (1:05.87). Sgrecci finished second in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:16.37). Ruocco placed second in the 100 yard backstroke (1:12.37).
Wrestling
The O-M/Watkins Glen varsity wrestling team lost to Groton, 42-39, Wednesday, Dec. 18.
Kadin Burnham (120) pinned Sabyn Mahannah in 3:17. Dominick Fazzary (145) beat Brennan Brockway by decision, 9-2. Braiden Ventra (182) won over Donovan Mitchell in 5:04. Tristian Harrington (220) defeated Austin Jacobs in 4:17.
Morgan Burnham (106), Zach Burrows (170), and Joshua Beckley (195) won by forfeit.

Watkins Glen girls basketball falls to Notre Dame
The Watkins Glen girls varsity basketball team lost to Notre Dame, Friday, Dec. 20. The final score was 52-46.
Aislinn Klemann recorded 11 points for the Senecas. Abby Gibson had nine, while Carly Arnold recorded seven.
The girls basketball team lost to Newark Valley, 71-34, Thursday, Dec. 19.
Klemann led with 12 points, five rebounds, and one steal. Adrienna Solomon earned nine points, three rebounds, and two assists. Arnold posted five points and six rebounds, while Kelsey Kernan also had five points and two rebounds. Ali LaMoreaux added two points and three rebounds.
Wrestling
