SPORTS RECAP: Week of 2/1/17

Dundee wrestling team tops Penn Yan 51-29
PENN YAN--The Dundee boys varsity wrestling team topped Penn Yan, 51-29, Saturday, Jan. 28.
Joseph Dillon (285) pinned O`Brien Dailey in 0:54. Steven Ameigh (126) beat Riley Brittingham by decision, 8-7. Logan Corey (145) beat Reid Castner in 2:57, while Damon Empson (152) won against Miguel Santos in 0:55. Harry Nice (195) pinned Leonardo Chavez in 2:22.
Caleb Eatherton (220), Charles Dailey (120), Jared Jayne (170), and Braydon Eatherton (182) all won by forfeit.

Odessa-Montour girls win 70-28; Johnson goes 5-0
ODESSA--Odessa-Montour's girls varsity basketball team defeated Candor, 70-28 and won the Interscholastic Athletic Conference South Small division Friday, Jan. 27.
Nakiaha Robinson led with 18 points, four steals, and five assists. Gillian Clark added 14 points and 10 rebounds. Olivia Grover contributed 10 points and nine rebounds. Sara Gardner scored nine points, while Kennedey Heichel and Grace Vondracek both had six points. Alexis Saunders recorded five points and Sage Garrison two.
With the win, the Indians' record is 13-2 overall.
Wrestling
The Odessa-Montour varsity wrestling team placed third in the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Duals, Saturday, Jan. 28.
The Indians beat Canajoharie/Fort Plain, 54-36; Chittenango, 48-21; Unatego, 36-27; and West Genesee, 39-36. Odessa lost to Vernon-Verona-Sherrill, 47-30.
Deshawn Johnson (182) was undefeated, 5-0. Josiah Lynch (106), Andrew Hartford (120), Collin Haag (138), Cameron Pickering (170) and Dylan Houseknecht (285) were all 4-1. Jacob Zimmer (145), Daniel Minnier (152), Jeremiah Lynch (160), and Alex Repass (220) ended with 3-2 records.
Boys swimming
The Indians boys varsity swim team lost to Waverly, 89-81, Friday, Jan. 27.
The 200 medley relay of Brett Walters, Andy Fudala, Jake Mayette, and Bailey Hornbrook won first. Billy Tague took first in the 200 free and first in the 500 free. Fudala placed first in the 100 breaststroke and second in the 50 free.
Alec Betts finished second in the 200 IM and second in the 100 free. Mayette won second in the 100 fly. Also finishing second was the 200 free relay team (Betts, Noah Angle, Fudala, and Tague) and the 400 free relay team (Betts, Angle, Walters, and Tague).
"Like most meets this season, it came down to the last relay, but O-M just didn't have enough left in the tank to pull off the first and third places needed to win," said Coach Terri Brace.

Penn Yan wrestling loses two matches; girls win
PENN YAN--Penn Yan's varsity wrestling team suffered a loss to Dundee, 51-29, Saturday, Jan. 28.
Cody Allgood (106) pinned Paul Knapp in 2:43. Damien Snyder (113) topped Michael Gee in 1:17. Jarred Calice (132) beat Trenton Lane in 1:44. Caleb Plain (138) pinned Kenneth Empson in 1:15. Coty Bailey (160) beat Troy Smith, 17-1.
The Penn Yan varsity wrestling team lost to East Rochester, 45-33, Friday, Jan. 27.
Calice (132) pinned Dan Zampino in 3:28. Plain (138) beat Alex Morales in 1:59. Alvaro Chavez (170) topped Jackson Hauser, by decision 3-1. Allgood (99), Nate Elliott (145) and Bailey (160) each won by forfeit.
Girls basketball
The Lady Mustangs varsity basketball team topped Newark, 43-41, Friday, Jan. 27.
Sydney Bloom led with 14 points, followed by Hannah Keech and Lizzy Lafferty both with seven points. Elissa Callaway scored six points. Emily Wunder earned four. Emalee Rose Brockman had three points and Cassidy Prather two.
With the win, Penn Yan's record is 9-6.
Boys basketball
The Penn Yan boys varsity basketball team fell to Newark, Friday, Jan. 27. The final score was 69-34.
Dylan Stape scored 15 points. With the loss, the Mustangs' record is 8-7.

Hammondsport ends season with a loss
PRATTSBURGH-The Hammondsport boys varsity basketball team ended the season with a 66-43 loss to Prattsburgh, Friday, Jan. 27.
Senior George Ruddy ended with a season high of 21 points for the game. Cameron Roote and James Kolo both recorded eight points.
The Hammondsport basketball team topped Canisteo-Greenwood, 49-40, in the last home game, Wednesday, Jan. 25.
Parker Watson scored 14 points, with four assists. James Kolo added 12 points. Cody Kolo earned eight points and Ruddy had six points, 11 rebounds, and three assists. Cameron McConnell contributed five points.

Watkins Glen faces Union Springs, Newark Valley
WATKINS GLEN--The Watkins Glen girls varsity bowling team beat Union Springs, 3-1, Friday, Jan. 27, while the boys lost, 3-1.
Dakota Evans recorded a 474. Liz Mason followed with 469. Nikole VanDyke posted 439.
For the boys, Casen Weeden bowled a 583. Conlin Wysocki added 547. Wrett Brower earned a 535.
The Senecas' varsity bowling teams beat Newark Valley, Thursday, Jan. 26.
The girls won 4-0, led by Evans with 493. Mason added a 475. Hayley Cornish bowled a 385.
The final score for the boys was 3-1. Nathaniel Rose led with 497. Wysocki earned a 471. Weeden posted 457.
Boys swimming
The Watkins Glen boys varsity swim team suffered a loss to Lansing, 111-72, Friday, Jan. 27.
Aidan DeBolt took first in the 50 free (23.72) and first in the 100 butterfly. AJ Specchio placed second in the 200 IM (2:24.75) and second in the 100 backstroke (1:05.85). Nathaniel Wickham finished second in the 100 free (58.57) and third in the 50 free (25.12).
Pat Bannon was second in the 500 free (6:42.97). Rong Lin was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:19.69) and third in the 200 free (2:24.43). Scott Brubaker took third in diving, while William Fitzsimmons placed third in the 100 butterfly (1:10.59) and third in the 100 backstroke (1:10.23).
Girls basketball
The Watkins Glen girls beat Spencer-Van Etten, 55-49, Friday, Jan. 27.
Amanda Pike led with with 33 points. Taylor Kelly scored eight points, followed by Mariah Gonzalez with four. Ryanna LaMoreaux had three. Emmie Bond, Clara Chedzoy, and Makenna Fraboni each added two points.
