SPORTS RECAP: Week of 2-17-21

Penn Yan Girls Basketball
The Penn Yan girls basketball team opened the season with two wins and a loss last week.
On Saturday afternoon, Penn Yan beat Wayne, 69-28. Hayley Andersen had 17 points and three steals in the game. Joddie Decker had 15 points, seven assists and four rebounds. Kaley Griffin recorded 13 points with seven rebounds. Jammie Decker had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Rounding out the scoring were Elle Harrison with eight points and Sam Lane-Tomion with six points.
The Lady Mustangs lost to Midlakes 49-37, Thursday, Feb. 11. Griffin had 17 points, six rebounds and four steals. Andersen added 11 points and six steals, while Joddie Decker had four points and three steals.
The girls opened the season with a win over Mynderse, Tuesday, Feb. 9. The final score was 38-30. Andersen and Joddie Decker each had 11 points. Griffin had 10 with seven rebounds.

Penn Yan Boys Basketball
The Penn Yan boys basketball team fell to Marcus Whitman 65-49, Thursday, Feb. 11. Dominic Lafferty and Devon Gerhardt led the boys with nine points each. Oliver Connelly had eight points and Max Brodmann six.
The boys also lost to Mynderse, 65-41, Tuesday, Feb. 9. Connelly scored 11 points for the Mustangs. Gerhardt had nine.

Penn Yan Bowling
The Penn Yan varsity bowling teams lost to Wayne, Saturday, Feb. 13.
The girls fell 3-2. Anella Tillman led with a 611. Andy Kniffin followed with a 562. Isabell Campbell recorded a 364, Dayton Gulick a 312 and Zoie Hotaling a 284.
The boys lost 4-1. Cameron Bassage had a 676. Connor Anderson recorded a 659. He was followed by Jon Mashewske with a 578 and Ben Broome with a 576.
The Penn Yan boys bowling team clinched the Finger Lakes East Title, Tuesday, Feb. 9. The boys beat Waterloo, 5-0. Colin Johnson recorded a 674. He was followed by: Bassage (646), Anderson (645), Mashewske (616) and Trevor Harris (545).
The girls lost to Waterloo with only three bowlers competing. Tillman had a 538, Campbell a 390 and Gulick a 337.
The bowlers faced Newark, Monday, Feb. 8. The boys won and the girls lost.
In the boys 4-1 win, Bassage led with a 677. Additional scores were recorded by: Broome (621), Mashewske (612) and Samatulski (548).
The girls lost 5-0, with three bowlers in competition. Tillman had a 535, Gulick a 370 and Campbell a 357.

Dundee Girls Basketball
The Dundee-Bradford varsity basketball team won two games last week.
On Saturday, Feb. 13, the girls defeated Honeoye, 63-24. Jillian Underhill led the team with 15 points. Kendall Parker recorded 12 points, while Makenzie Cratsley had 11 including three three-pointers.
"The ladies are moving the basketball on the offensive side of the court allowing high percentage shots," said coaches Michael Strait and Anthony Yeoman. "We are playing good team defense by putting pressure on our opponents. We are very encouraged by our hustle up and down the court. Overall a good team win."
The girls beat Marcus Whitman, 47-40, Thursday, Feb. 11. Parker had a team-high 15 points and three steals. Underhill put up 13 points and had four assists. Cratsley recorded nine points and seven rebounds, while Kailey Yeoman had eight points.

Dundee Boys Basketball
Dundee lost a close game to Honeoye, 46-44, Sunday, Feb. 14. Logan Salvatore had 15 points, five assists and four steals. Steven Webster recorded 12 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks. Peyton Boudinot scored eight points and had four rebounds.

Dundee Bowling
The Dundee girls varsity bowling team won their third-in-a-row league title after a match, Wednesday, Feb. 10. They end the season with a 31-4 record.
The girls fell to Midlakes 4-1 on Feb. 10. Jaedyn Brewer led with a 426. Following were: McKenna Miller (371), Kayla Andrews (357), Cheyenne Cummings (352) and Abby Miller (304).
The boys only had two bowlers record scores against Midlakes. Aaron Ayers had a 421 and Justin Keech a 350.
The Dundee girls won and boys lost against Bloomfield, Tuesday, Feb. 9.
Cummings led the girls with a 415. Other scores included: Cassie Morrissette (398), Brewer (394), Andrews (380) and Miller (350).
There were two scores recorded for the Dundee boys. Ayers had a 437 and Keech a 349.

Hammondsport Girls Basketball
The Hammondsport girls basketball team opened the season with two losses last week.
The Lady Lakers fell to Canisteo-Greenwood, 74-33, Saturday, Feb. 13. Hannah Hoerter led with 12 points. LaZell Locey and Rorie Whitcomb had seven points each. Danica Dresser recorded four points.
Arkport/Canaseraga defeated Hammondsport, 52-38, Wednesday, Feb. 10. Hoerter and Dresser had nine points each, while Whitcomb and Locey each had eight.

Hammondsport Boys Basketball
The Hammondsport Lakers lost two games to open their season last week.
On Saturday, Feb. 13, Campbell-Savona won 51-47. Alfred-Almond defeated Hammondsport 47-43, Tuesday, Feb. 9. Individual scoring statistics were not provided for either game.

Odessa-Montour Boys Swimming
The Odessa-Montour boys lost a close virtual meet against Dryden, Thursday, Feb. 11.
Coach Terri Brace reports, "Since the meet was "at Dryden" it was scored as a six-lane meet, which put our small team of six swimmers at a disadvantage. Regardless, I am very happy with the way the team swam. They posted many personal bests or season bests. We honored our two seniors, Brock Sgrecci, a two year veteran on the team, and Jared Rumsey, a senior rookie who made an impact in this short, unusual season."
The best times of the night came from:
Ben Campbell in the 200 and 500 free. Jared Rumsey in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 back. Brock Sgrecci in the 100 free, and was .10 off his all-time best from last year in the 100 breast. Caleb Reynolds posted a best time in the 500 free, and a season's best in the 200 IM.
Nick DeLong swam butterfly for the first time and completed the 50 fly in the medley relay and the 100 fly individual event.

Odessa-Montour Boys Basketball
The Odessa-Montour boys basketball team beat Edison, Saturday, Feb. 13. The final score was 43-40. The boys also won against Edison on Friday, that time by a score of 44-26.

Odessa-Montour Girls Basketball
The Odessa-Montour girls basketball team went to 0-2 on the season with a loss to Edison, Saturday, Feb. 13. In overtime, the score was 46-41.
The girls lost their season opener Friday to Edison by a score of 42-31.

Watkins Glen Boys Basketball
The Watkins Glen boys basketball team defeated Addison, Friday, Feb. 12. The final score was 54-28.

Watkins Glen Swimming
The Watkins Glen swimming team competed against Southern Cayuga, Tuesday, Feb. 9. Watkins lost 93-64. Liam Smith was first in the 200 individual medley and Ben Swinnerton was first in the 100 breaststroke. The 400 freestyle relay team was also first with a time of 4:18.46.
