Penn Yan will host sectional basketball games
The Penn Yan boys varsity basketball team is seeded fourth in the Section V Class B2 bracket. The Mustangs play Saturday, Feb. 29 at home, against the winner of a Haverling vs. Dansville game on Feb. 26.
Penn Yan beat Palmyra-Macedon, 45-42, Tuesday, Feb. 18.
Peter Nicholson led with 10 points. Devin Gerhardt had nine points, all three-point shots. Brennan Prather and Mason Kuver each scored seven points. Kyle Berna posted six points. Griffin Emerson earned four points, while David DeSorbo had two points.
Girls basketball
The Lady Mustangs' varsity basketball team is the number one seed in the Section V Class B2 bracket and will play at home Friday, Feb. 28. Penn Yan gets a bye in the first round of sectional games and will face the winner of the Feb. 25 game between North Rose-Wolcott and Rochester Prep.
Penn Yan beat Palmyra-Macedon, 60-54, in their last regular game of the season, Wednesday, Feb. 19.
Sierra Harrison led with 19 points. Joddie Decker scored 17 and Ashley Sisson 11.

Dundee girls, boys basketball look to sectionals
Dundee's girls basketball team is seeded seventh in the Class C2 sectionals and is scheduled to face number 10 seed Bolivar-Richburg, Wednesday, Feb. 26 at Bath.
The Lady Scots topped Harley Allendale Columbia, 50-37, Tuesday, Feb. 18.
Mackenzie Strait and Makenzie Cratsley both scored 14 points. Hallie Knapp posted seven points and 10 rebounds. Trisha Edmister earned six points, followed by Savannah Eaves with four points. Kendall Parker netted three points. Anna Bratlie had two.
Dundee fell to Romulus, Monday, Feb. 17. The final score was 53-31.
Strait led with 11 points. Parker and Cratsley both had six points. Knapp added three points, while Edmister and Eaves both scored two.
Boys basketball
The Dundee boys varsity basketball team is scheduled to play in the first round of the Class C3 sectionals, Tuesday, Feb. 23. Dundee is seeded fifth against Marion, seeded 12th. The game finished after press time for this newspaper edition.
Dundee defeated Harley Allendale Columbia, Tuesday, Feb. 18. The final score was 69-57. Individual statistics were not provided.

Lakers win final season games
The Lakers' boys varsity basketball team is seeded number seven in the Class D1 sectionals. Hammondsport is scheduled to face number 10 seed Eugenio Maria, Tuesday, Feb. 25. The game concluded after press time for this edition.
The Hammondsport boys beat Campbell-Savona in the last game of the regular season, Tuesday, Feb. 18. The final score was 61-38. Individual statistics were not reported.
Girls basketball
The Hammondsport girls varsity basketball team is seeded fourth in the Section V Class D1 tournament and plays, Saturday, Feb. 29 at home. Their opponent will be determined in a Feb. 26 game between Batavia-Notre Dame and Genesee Valley.
The Lakers beat Arkport/Canaseraga, 40-38, Tuesday, Feb. 18.
Destiny Hammond netted 17 points. Rorie Whitcomb scored eight, followed by Hannah Hoerter and Jillian Underhill with six points each. Maddie Sprague earned two points. Erika Hillgus added one.

Watkins Glen wins IAC title, look to sectionals next
The Watkins Glen boys varsity basketball team claimed the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) Large School Championship, Friday, Feb. 21. The Senecas beat the Large School North winner Whitney Point in overtime, 49-46, for the crown.
Owen Scholtisek led the team with 14 points and Max Evans had 12.
Watkins made it to the championship game by winning the IAC Large School South crown, Tuesday, Feb. 18. The Senecas beat Waverly, 60-50.
Adam Pastore and Isaac McIlroy paced the boys with 18 points each.
Watkins is also the number one seed of the Section IV Class C bracket. The Senecas are scheduled to face number 16 seed Sidney in the first round of games, Tuesday, Feb. 25. The game concluded after press time for this edition.
Section IV admission prices are $6 for adults and students (11-64) and $4 for seniors 65+.
Girls basketball
The Senecas' girls varsity basketball team will face Odessa-Montour in the Section IV Class C tournament, Wednesday, Feb. 26. Watkins is the ninth seed and Odessa is eighth, so the Lady Senecas will open on the road.
Watkins' Adrienna Solomon was named to the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) South Large School Division's second All-Star team. Kelsey Kernan and Aislinn Klemann earned honorable mentions. All-Stars are voted on by coaches in each division.
Boys swimming
The Senecas' boys varsity swim team placed sixth at the Section IV Class C Championship Saturday, Feb. 22.
The 200 yard freestyle relay team (Jordan Avery, Scott Brubaker, Ben Swinnerton, and Daine Butler) was fifth with a 1:46.86 time. The 200 yard medley relay team (Avery, Swinnerton, Brubaker, and Butler) finished seventh in 2:00.61. The 400 yard freestyle relay team (Owen Bingham, Anthony Cummings, Colby Thurston, and Liam Smith) was seventh in 4:22.08.
Thurston finished fourth in diving. Smith was seventh in the 200 yard individual medley (2:35.28). Avery placed seventh in the 50 yard freestyle (25.35). Butler took seventh in the 100 yard freestyle (56.61).

Swimmers place; basketball will host Watkins Glen
The Odessa-Montour boys varsity swim team finished third at the Section IV Class C Championship, Saturday, Feb. 22.
The 200 yard medley relay team (Brett Walters, Caleb Thomas, Jacob Mayette, and Micah Brewster) took first with a 1:49.01. The 400 yard freestyle relay team (Mayette, Jon Spencer, Brewster, and Walters) placed second with a 3:40.24. The 200 yard freestyle relay team (Thomas, Justin Ruocco, Nick DeLong, and Brock Sgrecci) was third in 1:43.47.
Mayette finished third in the 200 yard individual medley (2:23.13) and third in the 100 yard butterfly (1:01.21). Walters placed third in the 50 yard freestyle (23.89) and fourth in the 100 yard freestyle (53.25). Sgrecci was fourth in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:11.65).
Girls basketball
The Indians' girls varsity basketball team is seeded eighth in the Class C sectional tournament. Odessa is scheduled to face number nine seed Watkins Glen, Wednesday, Feb. 26 at home.
Three Odessa-Montour athletes were named to the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) South Small School Division All-Star teams.
Sara Gardner was chosen for the first All-Star team. Grace Vondracek and Kara Reese were named to the second team. JoLynn Minnier was given an honorable mention. All-Stars are voted on by coaches in each division.
