SPORTS RECAP: Week of 3/1/17

Watkins girls beat Walton, advance to semifinals
WATKINS GLEN-The Watkins Glen girls varsity basketball team topped Walton, Friday, Feb. 24, and advanced to the Section IV Class C semifinals.
The final score against Walton was 54-27. Amanda Pike led with 23 points, followed by Mariah Gonzalez with 14. Taylor Kelly posted seven points. Emmie Bond and Hannah Morse both earned three points. Clara Chedzoy and Mikenna Ayers each had two points.
The Senecas, the top seed in Class C, faced Elmira Notre Dame in the sectional semifinals, Tuesday, Feb. 28. The game was played after the press time.
Notre Dame was seeded fifth and beat number four seed Odessa-Montour on Feb. 24.

Scots beat Fillmore, lose to Lima Christian
DUNDEE-The Dundee boys varsity basketball team lost to Lima Christian, 79-70, in the Section V Class D1 quarterfinals, Friday, Feb. 24.
Bobby Strait led with 26 points, which included seven three-point shots. Strait posted 23 points in the first half. Tyler Brace had 16 points. Wylie Hall scored nine.
With the loss, the Scots end the season with a 14-8 record.
The Scots beat number 13 Fillmore, 67-39, Tuesday, Feb. 21. Strait scored 17 points. Hall added nine.
Girls basketball
The Lady Scots varsity basketball team fell to Wheatland-Chili in the first round of the Class D1 Sectionals, Wednesday, Feb. 22. The final score was 79-13.
Wheatland-Chili was the number two seed, the Scots were seeded 15th. Individual stats were not reported.

Penn Yan boys fall to Livonia; girls lose to Hornell
LIVONIA-The Penn Yan boys varsity basketball team ended the season in the Section V Class B quarterfinals, Friday, Feb. 24.
The Mustangs, sixth seed, fell to number three seed Livonia, 37-36. Dylan Stape scored 10 points. The Mustangs end with a 12-10 record.
Penn Yan topped Wayland-Cohocton, 53-31, in the first round of sectionals, Tuesday, Feb. 21.
Stape led with 18 points. Will Rogers scored 11, while Cade Curbeau posted seven points.
Girls basketball
The Penn Yan girls varsity basketball team lost to Hornell, 55-43, Wednesday, Feb. 22, in the first round of Section V Class B games.
Individual stats were not reported.
The Penn Yan girls were the number five seed against Hornell's number 12 seed. The Lady Mustangs' record at the end of the season is 11-10.

Odessa girls end the season against Notre Dame
ODESSA-The Odessa-Montour girls varsity basketball team ended the season with a Section IV Class C quarterfinal loss to Elmira Notre Dame, Friday, Feb. 24. The final score was 50-47.
The Indians were seeded fourth, against number five seed Elmira. Gillian Clark led with 20 points. Kennedey Heichel recorded eight points, while Nakiaha Robinson and Olivia Grover both scored six. Sara Gardner recorded three points. Sage Garrison and Grace Vondracek each had two points.
Notre Dame held the lead at halftime, 20-16, and halfway through the third quarter. The Indians rallied and took a 45-44 lead with 1:40 left in the game. However, Odessa was unable to maintain the advantage and lost by three points.
Odessa ends the season with a 16-5 record.

Lakers end sectional run
AVOCA-The Hammondsport varsity basketball team lost to Avoca, Class D2's number two seed, in the sectional quarterfinals, Saturday, Feb. 25. The final score was 71-39.
The Lakers were seeded number 10.
George Ruddy recorded nine points. Cody Kolo scored eight. The Lakers end the season with a 7-14 record.
Hammondsport topped Scio in the first round of sectionals, 53-38, Wednesday, Feb. 22.
Brayden Whitcomb netted 16 points. Kolo contributed 12 points, while Parker Watson scored 10.
