SPORTS RECAP: Week of 4-18-18

Seneca Indians win three games, runners win
ODESSA--The combined Watkins/Odessa varsity baseball team topped Lansing, 6-4, Saturday, April 14.
Josh Updyke was 2-for-3, with two RBIs, while Ben Mathews was 1-for-2, with two RBIs. Michael Doane and Hunter Holley were both 1-for-3, with an RBI. On the pitcher's mound, Doane allowed seven hits and three runs, while striking out four.
The varsity baseball team recorded a 7-3 victory over Newark Valley, Thursday, April 12.
Doane was 1-for-4, with two RBIs. Derrick Lewis was 3-for-4, with one RBI. Sean Kelly was 1-for-3, with one RBI. Updyke was also 3-for-4. Caleb Thomas had a double and was 1-for-3.
The Seneca Indians topped Candor, 12-7, Wednesday, April 11.
Thomas was 3-for-4, while Updyke was 2-for-3. Both also secured three RBIs. Thomas also posted a double and a triple.
Kelly was 2-for-3, while Lewis was 1-for-3. John Neidermaier was 1-for-2. Isaac McIlroy was 1-for-4 and Austin Voorheis was 2-for-4.
Lacrosse
The Watkins Glen varsity lacrosse team fell to Marcus Whitman, Saturday, April 14. The final score was 14-5.
Joe Chedzoy won 18 out of 23 face-offs, as well as scored two goals and assisted twice. Jackson Dunham also earned two goals. Avery Watson posted one goal and two assists. Dalton Cummings added one assist and recovered five ground balls.
The Senecas' lacrosse lost to Notre Dame, Thursday, April 12. The final score was 20-15.
Boys golf
Watkins' boys varsity golf team fell to Newark Valley, 252-297, Thursday, April 12.
Georgio Fazzary led for the Senecas with a 48. AJ Specchio and Ethan Cary both earned a 59. Ben Swinnerton added 65. Andrew Hayes posted 66.
Softball
The Watkins' girls varsity softball team fell to Tioga, Tuesday, April 10. The final score was 26-0.
Tennis
The Watkins Glen varsity tennis team blanked Union Springs, Wednesday, April 11. The final score was 7-0.
Nathaniel Wickham beat Michela Lawrence, 6-1, 6-3. Peter Sandritter topped Jacquline Huber, 6-1, 6-0. Dylan Morse won against Sierra Clark, 6-0, 6-0. Clint Craven defeated Madison Gannon, 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles, Jill Cantieni and Hannah Morse defeated Sarah Lutkins and Tom Radley, 6-1, 6-1. Makenna Fraboni and Megan Hazlitt topped Nick Bower and Steve Forgham, 6-0, 6-0. Tim Clifford and Kathleen Clifford beat Alyson Walters and Victoria Lopez, 6-0, 6-0.
The Senecas' tennis team topped Trumansburg, 6-1, Monday, April 9.
Wickham beat Jonas Puryear, 6-0, 3-6, 6-3. Sandritter won against Jared Everhart, 6-4, 6-2. Morse beat Nik DiMarco, 6-0, 6-0. Craven topped Caeyn Hoeng, 6-0, 6-0.
Cantieni and Morse won against Hannah Morpurgo and Kelly Proctor, 6-1, 6-4. Kathleen Clifford and Tim Clifford topped Macy Covert and Julia Wright, 6-0, 6-0.
Track and field
The Senecas' boys varsity track and field team finished eighth and the girls 10th, at the Moravia Relays, Saturday, April 14.
The boys sprint medley relay team (Aaron Planty, Elliott Holland, Casen Weeden, and Gabe Planty) were first in 3:57.2, a new school record. The distance medley relay team (Aaron Planty, Holland, Weeden, and Gabe Planty) also finished first with 11:57.2.
For the girls, the sprint medley relay team (Isobel Scheffey, Madelyn Suddaby, Haley Dean, and Julya Slater) took first in 4:56.6. The freshman and sophomore sprint medley relay team (Bre Carl, Suddaby, Haley Dean, and Julya Slater) were second in 5:29.2. The distance medley relay team (Scheffey, Kai Sutterby, Carl, and Slater) were third in 15:14.6.

Odessa tennis falls to Waverly, tops Newark Valley
ODESSA--The Odessa-Montour varsity tennis team lost to Waverly, 5-2, Wednesday, April 11. Billy Tague topped Jose Garcia, 6-2, 6-3. Deshawn Johnson defeated Kaleb Ennis, 7-5, 6-2.
The Indians won against Newark Valley, Tuesday, April 10. The final score was 4-3.
Curtis Harris beat Lindsey Diego, 6-1, 6-0. Tague defeated Ashley Marsh, 6-1, 6-1. Johnson topped Natalie Shofkom, 6-4, 6-3. Jacy Knapp and Bronwyn Stermer defeated Cymbri Jefferson and Kelsey Kerns, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
Softball
The Odessa-Montour varsity softball team suffered two losses in the Northeast Bradford Tournament, Saturday, April 14.
The Indians lost to Sullivan County, 19-2, in the first round of the tournament. Kat Conners was 2-for-3, with two singles and an RBI. Dezirae Minnier was 1-for-3, with a single and one RBI. Heidi Casselberry was 1-for-2, while Isabel Foote and Grace Vondracek were both 1-for-3.
Odessa also fell to Northeast Bradford, 10-5. Lydia Lynch was 2-for-3, with two singles and two RBIs. Vondracek was 2-for-4, with two singles. Conners was 1-for-4, while Karlee Dudgeon was 1-for-3 and Jolynn Minnier was 1-for-2.
The Indians' softball team lost to Elmira Notre Dame, Wednesday, April 11. The final score was 5-4.
Vondracek went 2-for-4, with a double, a triple, and three RBIs. Jolynn Minnier was 2-for-3, with a single, while Dezirae Minnier was 1-for-3, also with a single. Foote, Lynch, and Conners all were 1-for-4.
Odessa's softball team lost to Waverly, 8-0, Monday, April 9. The Indians had three hits, from Lynch, Vondracek, and Conners. Each of the three earned a single. Pitching, Vondracek struck out 14.
Track and field
The Odessa-Montour girls varsity track and field team took second in the Moravia Relays, while the boys placed fourth, Saturday, April 14.
The shuttle hurdle relay team (Hannah Bruno, Hunter Daugherty, Kennedey Heichel, and Camille Sgrecci) won first in 1:19.2. The pole vault relay team finished first (15'6"), with Heichel tying the best individual height (9'6"). The triple jump relay team placed first (57'6"), while The shot put relay team was second (50'11.5").
For the boys, The shot put relay team was first (85'4.75"), with the Indians' Zach Elliott in the top individual spot (49'11"). The discus relay team placed first (238'4"), while the 6400 relay team finished first (22:14.9) as well. The 1600 meter relay team took second (4:06.6).

Penn Yan softball beats Waterloo; baseball wins
PENN YAN--The Penn Yan varsity softball team topped visiting Waterloo, Thursday, April 12. The final score was 11-8.
The Lady Mustangs fell to Mynderse, 9-7, Tuesday, April 10.
No individual statistics were provided for either game.
Baseball
The Penn Yan varsity baseball team topped East Rochester, 8-0, in extra innings, Saturday, April 14.
Nick Hoover was 1-for-4, with two RBIs. Noah Detar was 1-for-4, with a triple. Brandon Sherman was 1-for-3, with a double and an RBI. Brennan Prather, Peyton Schuck, Derrick Riviello, and Josh Smith each earned a hit and one RBI.
The Mustangs defeated Mynderse, Tuesday, April 10. The final score was 4-1.
Matt Moniot and Sherman each had an RBI. Donny McMahon and Prather were both 1-for-4, with an RBI. Detar went 2-for-4.
Boys lacrosse
The Penn Yan boys varsity lacrosse team beat Marcellus in overtime, Saturday, April 14. The final score was 5-4.
Colton Smith posted two goals, including the game-winning shot, and an assist. Austin Blumbergs also scored two goals. Conner Fingar added one goal. Dylan Stape and Ayden Mowry had two and one assists respectively. In goal, Jeff Kinyoun earned 15 saves.
The Mustangs defeated Bath, 10-7, Tuesday, April 10.
Fingar led with three goals and one assist. Mowry scored two goals, followed by Blumbergs and Stape with one goal and one assist each. Chase Blumbergs, Devon Gerhardt, and Clay Kinyoun each posted a goal. Max Brodmann assisted once. Jeff Kinyoun had 11 saves in goal.
Girls lacrosse
The Lady Mustangs varsity lacrosse team suffered a loss to Palmyra-Macedon, 18-5, Thursday, April 12.
Hannah Keech led with three goals. Sydney Bloom scored twice, with one assist. Elissa Callaway, Sydney Hulse, and Alli Olevnik each assisted once. Goalie Alexandra Cox posted 10 saves.
Penn Yan beat Mynderse-Romulus, 5-4, Tuesday, April 10.
Bloom and Keech both scored twice. Alison Winslow added the team's fifth goal. Callaway, Grace Ledgerwood, Olevnik, and Hayley Andersen all assisted once. In the goal, Cox had five saves.
Tennis
The Mustangs' varsity tennis team blanked visiting Midlakes, 5-0, Friday, April 13.
In singles, Austin Lafferty beat Jared Jensen, 6-4, 6-2. Lukas Spears topped Lucas Jensen, 6-1, 6-0. Alex Thiesmeyer defeated Cody Helker, 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles, Connor Hunter and Cole Egburtson beat Bryce Norsen and Elijah Breese, 6-2, 6-1. Jeremy Fenton and Reid Castner won against Caiden Pappert and Zach Edgemon, 6-1, 6-1.
Penn Yan fell to Marcus Whitman, Wednesday, April 11. The final score was 3-2.
Thiesmeyer defeated Nevin Walters in singles, 6-3, 6-2. The doubles team of Fenton and Castner topped Cameron Clark and Brandon Strait, 6-2, 6-2.
Track and field
The Penn Yan girls varsity track and field team took second and the boys fourth at Marcus Whitman, Friday, April 13.
Joddie Decker took first in the 1500 meter run (5:27.24), first in the 3000 meter run (12:16.54), and second in the 800 meter run (2:40.04). Maci Nicholson was first in the 400 meter hurdles (1:14.45), second in the 1500 meter run (5:34.34), and second in the 3000 meter run (12:25.64).
Emma Harling finished first in the shot put (32'4.75") and second in the discus (80'6"). Allyssa Johnson placed second in the 400 meter dash (1:07.66) and second in the high jump (4'3").
For the boys, Ben DeMoras placed first in the 400 meter dash (56.04), first in the 800 meter run (2:12.44), second in the 1600 meter run (5:00.64), and second in the 3200 meter run (10:55.94). Kyle Ingerick took second in the 200 meter dash (24.76), third in the 100 meter dash (12.08), third in the long jump (19'4"), and third in the triple jump (37'9").

Dundee falls to HAC; track team takes second
DUNDEE--The Dundee varsity softball team suffered a loss to Harley Allendale Columbia, Friday, April 13. The final score was 13-6.
Makenzie Strait was 2-for-3. Bri Maloy went 2-for-4.
Baseball
The Dundee varsity baseball team was beaten by Bloomfield, 8-2, Tuesday, April 10.
Kyle Cratsley pitched five and two-third innings, allowing three runs and striking out 15. He also drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Zack Neu went 1-for-3 at the plate, driving in the other run for the Scots.
Track and field
Dundee's boys varsity track and field team was second in the Wayne-Finger Lakes league meet held at Marcus Whitman, Friday, April 13. The girls finished fifth.
Julian Ortiz took first in the high jump (5'7"), while Sam Richards finished first in the pole vault (11'0"). Leif Hoyt was first in the discus (102'3").
Wylie Hall took second in the 100 meter dash (11.95), second in the long jump (19'6"), and second in the triple jump (39'9"). Tate Hoyt placed second in the shot put (36'1.5"). Preston Cole took second in the discus (97'9").
For the girls, Lily Hall placed first in the high jump (4'5"), first in the triple jump (31'9.5"), third in the 100 meter dash (14.25), and third in the long jump (13'10"). Hallie Knapp took fourth in the discus (56'1").

Hammondsport baseball loses
HAMMONDSPORT--The Hammondsport varsity baseball team fell to Prattsburgh, 21-8, Wednesday, April 11.
Mike Beam was 1-for-3, with a walk and two runs. Jackson Cummings was 2-for-4, with a double and a run. Andrew Hill went 1-for-2, and a walk.
Sam Zyla pitched three innings and had three strikeouts. Zak Davis pitched for one and two-third innings with one strikeout.
Hammondsport lost to Whitesville, 20-11, Tuesday, April 10.
Beam went 2-for-2, with two runs, four stolen bases, one walk, and one RBI. Bill Whitney was 2-for-3, with three runs. Brock Underwood earned a double.
On the pitcher's mound, Whitney, Harley Underwood, and Cummings each struck out two.
The Hammondsport baseball team recorded a loss to Bradford, Monday, April 9. The final score was 20-6.
Pitching, Zyla earned four strikeouts and Beam had two. Davis was 3-for-4 at the plate, with two runs. Beam was 2-for-3.
Softball
The Hammondsport/Prattsburgh varsity softball team lost to Arkport/Canaseraga, Friday, April 13. The final score was 4-0.
The combined softball team fell to C.G. Finney, Thursday, April 12. The final score was 11-8.
Golf
The Hammondsport varsity golf team beat Jasper Troupsburg, Friday, April 13.
Nigel Snyder and Parker Watson led with a match-low 47. Gavyn Buck recorded a 55. John Wright was next with a 56. Travis Beers rounded out scoring for Hammondsport with a 60.
The Lakers' golf team beat Campbell-Savona, Monday, April 9. Leading Hammondsport was Watson with a 39, the lowest overall. Ben Cole followed with a 46. Buck earned a 51, while Matthew Cole had a 55. In fifth, Snyder recorded a 60.
Tennis
The Prattsburgh-Hammondsport varsity tennis team blanked Addison, 5-0, Friday, April 13.
Troy Sanford beat Jesse Plumley, 6-2, 6-1. Colin Drain topped Spencer Baker-Hibbard, 6-0, 6-0. Alek Barter won by forfeit.
Rhett Presler and Tommy Morris beat Devon Ward-Keeler and Tyler Housel, 6-1, 6-1. Benjamin Fingar and Bryce Santacroce won against Marshall Harding and Dakota Root, 6-1, 6-1.
The tennis team lost to Fillmore, Thursday, April 12. The final score was 3-2.
Prattsburgh-Hammondsport earned a win in both singles and doubles. Drain topped Jake Masterson, 6-0, 6-0. Dylan McDermott and Bryce Santacroce beat Cordel Nary and Zach Herring, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.
Prattsburgh-Hammondsport's tennis team topped Alfred-Almond, 3-2, Wednesday, April 11.
In singles, Drain defeated Joe Miletti, 10-0, 0-0. Doubles team Fingar and Presler won against Conner Griffin and Nathaniel Grove, 10-6, 0-0. McDermott and Santacroce topped Mike Roberts and Nick Robertshaw, 10-2, 0-0.
