SPORTS RECAP: Week of 5-16-18

Dundee boys take division track title, host meet
DUNDEE--The Dundee varsity track team captured the title for division three in the Wayne Finger Lakes League last week.
The Scots also hosted the Last Chance Invitational, Monday, May 14.
Recording wins for Dundee was William Hall in the long jump and triple jump. Josh Cramer won the 400 meter hurdles event, while Preston Cole was first in the shot put and Leif Hoyt in the discus.
Full results were not available by press time for this edition. They will be published in next week's paper.
The track and field teams competed at the Fast Times Invitational, Friday, May 11.
Hall was second in the long jump (20'0.75") and third in the triple jump (38'8.5"). Cramer took third in the 110 meter hurdles (18.05). Preston Cratsley placed fifth in the long jump (17'11.5"). Ryan Prior was sixth in the triple jump (35'8"). Leif Hoyt placed seventh in the discus (114'8").
For the girls, Lily Hall finished third in the triple jump (32'1") and third in the long jump (15'0.75").
Softball
The Lady Scots varsity softball team went 1-1 against South Seneca in a doubleheader, Thursday, May 10.
Dundee lost the first game, 6-5. Alyssa Newell was 3-for-3. Bri Maloy went 1-for-2.
Dundee defeated South Seneca in the second game, 7-3. Hailee Empson was 2-for-3. Maloy posted two RBIs.

Penn Yan athletes place first; lacrosse tops St. Joseph
MARION--The Penn Yan girls track and field team took 10th and the boys 12th at the Marion Invitational, Friday, May 11.
Joddie Decker won the 3000 meter run (11:04.15) and was fourth in the 1500 meter run (4:59.55). Emma Harling placed first in the shot put (33'10") and fifth in the discus (86'2"). Maci Nicholson was sixth in the 2000 meter steeplechase (7:51.87).
Ben DeMoras finished second in the 1600 meter run (4:31.44) and fourth in the 3200 meter run (10:27.25). Dominic Lafferty was fifth in the pentathlon high jump (1.52 meters), eighth in the pentathlon 1500 meter run (5:16.06), eighth in the pentathlon 110 meter hurdles (21.57), 10th in the pentathlon shot put (8 meters), 10th in the long jump (4.5 meters), and eighth in the pentathlon overall.
Boys lacrosse
Penn Yan's boys lacrosse team topped St. Joseph, 5-4, Saturday, May 12.
Colton Smith scored two points. Conner Fingar added one goal and one assist. Austin Blumbergs and Dylan Stape each had one goal, while Devon Gerhardt assisted once. In goal, Jeff Kinyoun had seven saves.
The Mustangs fell to Fairport, Thursday, May 10. The final score was 6-3.
Blumbergs posted one goal and one assist. Fingar and Smith both scored once. Kinyoun had eight saves.
Girls lacrosse
The Lady Mustangs varsity lacrosse team lost to Waterloo, Wednesday, May 9. The final score was 10-4.
Elissa Callaway had two goals, while Hannah Keech and Logan Broome each had one.
The Penn Yan girls topped Gananda, 16-6, Monday, May 7.
Keech led with five goals and one assist. Callaway scored four goals, with two assists. Sydney Bloom added three goals and three assists. Alli Olevnik posted one goal and two assists, while Alison Winslow also earned one goal and one assist. Grace Ledgerwood and Sydney Hulse each scored once. In goal, Alexandra Cox earned 14 saves.
Tennis
Penn Yan's varsity tennis team lost to Mynderse, 3-2, Friday, May 11.
Alex Thiesmeyer topped Keenan Butler in singles, 6-1, 6-2. Doubles team Brian Hollister and Reid Castner defeated Trent Roggie and Jaden Adams, 6-2, 6-2.
The Mustangs fell to Geneva, Thursday, May 10. The final score was 4-1. Penn Yan's win was in singles. Thiesmeyer beat Branden Lebbon, 6-3, 6-4.
Penn Yan lost to Bloomfield, 4-1, Wednesday, May 9. Spencer Christensen and Castner defeated Ridge Bennett and Shea McClelland, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
Softball
The Penn Yan varsity softball team topped Palmyra-Macedon, Friday, May 11. The final score was 10-8.
The Lady Mustangs lost to Newark in a home game, Wednesday, May 9. The final score was 6-4.
Baseball
Penn Yan's varsity baseball team topped Palmyra-Macedon, 12-5, Friday, May 11.
The Mustangs took an early lead, scoring six runs in the first inning. Pal-Mac made it onto the scoreboard in the fourth inning, but by then Penn Yan had nine runs.
Donny McMahon posted four hits, going 4-for-5, with a double and an RBI. Brennan Prather earned two hits, with a double. Greg Hoke, Josh Smith, and Peyton Schuck each had two RBIs. Nick Hoover also had a double.
The Mustangs lost to Newark, Wednesday, May 9. The final score was 6-5.
Prather was 3-for-3, with a triple. Smith was 1-for-3, with an RBI. Schuck went 1-for-4, with an RBI.
The Penn Yan baseball team fell to Midlakes, Monday, May 7. The final score was 6-5.
Derrick Riviello was 2-for-4, with three RBIs and two triples. Schuck went 2-for-3, with one RBI. Prather and McMahon each also posted two hits.

Watson moves to individual golf sectionals
HORNELL--Hammondsport's Parker Watson will advance to Section V Individual Sectional Tournament Saturday at Penfield Country Club after qualifying Monday, May 14. Watson shot a 83 in the Steuben County League Championship at Twin Hickory Golf Course in Hornell.
The Hammondsport varsity golf team fell to Addison, Monday, May 7.
Watson and Ben Cole had the Lakers' lowest score, a 46, placing fifth and sixth respectively against Addison. Gavyn Buck added 52. Nigel Snyder posted 53, followed by Matthew Cole with a 54.
Tennis
The Prattsburgh-Hammondsport varsity tennis team blanked Campbell-Savona, 5-0, Friday, May 11.
In singles, Troy Sanford beat Nicholas Reed, 10-0. Rhett Presler won against Aidan Hellrigel, 10-0. Drew Stockton beat Autumn Peck, 10-0.
Colin Drain and Tommy Morris topped Steve Ceasar and Kaleb Zimar, 10-3. Benjamin Fingar and Bryce Santacroce defeated Holland Fernandes and Jacqueline Hess, 10-0.
The combined tennis team beat Alfred-Almond, 4-1, Thursday, May 10.
Sanford topped Wes Dennison, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1. Drain beat Mike Roberts, 6-3, 6-2.
Fingar and Presler beat Nathaniel Grove and Conner Griffin, 6-2, 6-1. Alek Barter and Santacroce won against Joe Miletti and Elijah SymesLatini, 6-1, 6-1.
Softball
The Hammondsport/Prattsburgh varsity softball team fell to Arkport/Canaseraga, Friday, May 11. The final score was 7-3.
The combined softball team beat Romulus in an away game, 11-6, Thursday, May 10.

Softball downs Watkins; Odessa girls place fourth
ODESSA--The Odessa-Montour varsity softball team topped Newfield in a doubleheader, Thursday, May 10.
The Indians blanked Newfield, 22-0, in the first game. Kat Conners was 2-for-3, with three RBIs and a double. Grace Vondracek was 1-for-4, with one RBI and a double, while Dezirae Minnier was 1-for-2, with three RBIs and a double. Heidi Casselberry, Megan Jenkins, and Emma Lodge also earned a hit and two RBIs each.
In the second game, Odessa beat Newfield, 15-0. Conners was 3-for-4, with five RBIs and a triple. Vondracek was 2-for-2, with one RBI, a triple, and a double. Jenkins also earned a hit. On the pitcher's mound, Conners struck out 10.
Odessa's girls topped Watkins Glen, 8-1, Wednesday, May 9.
Casselberry was 4-for-5, with four singles. Vondracek went 2-for-4, with two RBIs and two singles. Isabel Foote also earned two hits, two singles, and an RBI. Lydia Lynch was 1-for-5, with a double.
The Indians' softball team lost to Tioga, Tuesday, May 8. The final score was 12-2.
Vondracek led with two hits, earning an RBI, a triple, and a single. Lynch was 1-for-3, with a double. Lodge, Casselberry, and Conners each also earned a hit and a single.
Girls Golf
The Odessa-Montour girls varsity golf team placed fourth, Friday, May 11, with a team score of 210.
Gillian Clark led the Odessa girls with a 45. Catherine Rounds followed with a 53. Gabby Fazzary had a 55, while Eliza Starkweather shot a 57.
Tennis
The Odessa-Montour varsity tennis team was beaten by Elmira Notre Dame, 7-0, Monday, May 7.
The scores for the singles matches were: Curtis Harris, 6-1, 6-4; Billy Tague, 7-5, 6-3; Cameron Adams, 6-0, 6-0; and Deshawn Johnson, 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles, Sara Gardner and Rhys Stermer lost, 6-4, 6-4; Jonathon Myers and Jordan Robinson, 6-2, 6-1; and Hailey Hoose and Bronwyn Stermer, 6-1, 6-3.
Seneca Indians
The Seneca Indians varsity baseball team lost to Thomas A Edison, Monday, May 7. The final score was 7-1.
Josh Updyke was 2-for-3. Derrick Lewis, Michael Doane, and Isaac McIlroy also had one hit each. Sean Kelly earned an RBI.
On the pitcher's mound, Lewis posted six strikeouts. Doane struck out one.

Watkins lacrosse falls to Dryden; softball loses
WATKINS GLEN--The Watkins Glen varsity lacrosse team fell to Dryden, 14-11, Friday, May 11.
Jackson Dunham scored four goals, with one assist. Dalton Cummings added three goals. Joe Chedzoy posted two goals, two assists, and won 22 faceoffs. Seth Swinnerton earned one goal and two assists, while Avery Watson added one goal and one assist. In goal, Jake Johnson had nine saves and Kaitlyn Valla had one.
Watkins was beaten by Chenango Valley, 14-5, Wednesday, May 9.
Dunham scored twice, with one assist. Chedzoy earned one goal and one assist, while Watson and Cummings each scored once. In goal, Johnson posted 14 saves.
"Jake stepped it up without any experience in goal and made 14 great saves keeping the score closer than it could have been," said Coach Nils Watson.
The Senecas suffered a defeat to Notre Dame, 14-10, Tuesday, May 8.
Chedzoy was 23-for-27 in the face-offs. He also earned three goals and one assist. Dunham posted four goals. Cummings had two goals. Watson added one goal and three assists. Valla had six saves in goal.
Boys golf
The Watkins Glen varsity golf team fell to Newark Valley, 242-267, Friday, May 11.
Patrick Bannon led with a 43. Georgio Fazzary posted a 47, while Ethan Cary added a 55. Dan Ely had a 59. A.J. Specchio recorded a 63.
Bannon also qualified for the Section IV Medalist Tournament at Cornell, scheduled to be held Thursday, May 17.
The Senecas lost to Tioga, 198-252, Monday, May 7.
Bannon had a 38, followed by Fazzary with 48. Cary and Ben Swinnerton both posted 54. Andrew Hayes added a 58.
Track and field
The Watkins Glen track and field teams competed at the Fast Times Invitational, Friday, May 11.
Gabe Planty took fourth in the 1600 meter run (4:28.35). Travon Jones was eighth in the high jump (5'0"). Casen Weeden finished eighth in the discus (104'2"). Aaron Planty was ninth in the 1600 meter run (4:41.91).
For the girls, Isobel Scheffey was third in the 400 meter dash (1:02.90) and sixth in the 200 meter dash (28.11). Allison Gibson was sixth in the 100 meter dash (14.21), seventh in the high jump (4'3"), and eighth in the long jump (13'10.5"). Julya Slater took seventh in the 2000 meter steeplechase (8:38.80). Kelsey Kernan finished ninth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:18.25).
Softball
The Watkins Glen varsity softball team lost to Odessa-Montour, Wednesday, May 9. The final score was 8-1.
Cierra Barber earned a run for the Senecas. On the pitcher's mound, Claudia Parker struck out one.
Tennis
The Senecas' varsity tennis team fell to Thomas A. Edison, 5-2, Wednesday, May 9.
In singles, Dylan Morse defeated Anthony Forte, 6-4, 6-0. Alexandria LaMoreaux and Kendra Larson topped Sage Elliott and Serefine Reed, 6-2, 6-3.
The Watkins tennis team topped Moravia, Tuesday, May 8. The final score was 6-1.
Peter Sandritter defeated Jared Justian, 6-3, 6-2. Dylan Morse beat Brady Knutson, 6-0, 6-0. Clint Craven won by forfeit.
Jill Cantieni and Hannah Morse topped Gavin Dearden and Kaitlyn Dusseau, 6-0, 6-0. Makenna Fraboni and Megan Hazlitt won against Aaron Ammerman and Trinity Dearden, 6-1, 6-2. Elise Allington and Kendra Larson beat Rachel Bancroft and Lindsey Jones, 6-1, 6-1.
