Sports Recap: Week of 5/7/14

Penn Yan girls lacrosse team beats Midlakes
CLIFTON SPRINGS—The Penn Yan girls varsity lacrosse team topped Midlakes, 17-7, in an away game, Friday, May 2.
Heather Conklin and Courtney Lafler both scored five goals for the Lady Mustangs. Brienna Yonge added four, while Heather Lee and Peyton Pallar both scored once.
Penn Yan also beat Marcus Whitman, 15-2, Wednesday, April 30.  Lafler led with five goals, followed by Conklin with three.   Lee, Pallar, and Brenna Voigt each scored twice.
The girls varsity lacrosse team topped Gananda, 20-2, Monday, April 28.
Pallar led with three goals.  Hannah Christensen, Sydney Bloom, and Stacie Dailey each scored twice.  Individual goals came from Renee Burt, Conklin, Hannah Keech, Lafler, Lee, Kendall Neuberger, Lynette Smith, Kim Thayer, Voigt, and Yonge.
Softball
The Lady Mustangs varsity softball team topped Newark, 14-3, Saturday, May 3.  Becca Bailey had a triple and two runs, while Sara Alexander had two hits.
Penn Yan beat Waterloo, Monday, April 28.  The final score was 8-2.  Brooke Sherman had a triple, while Bailey had a double and two hits.  Megan Lafferty added two hits.  Ashley Walker had a double.
Baseball
The Penn Yan varsity baseball team beat Wayland-Cohocton, 5-3, Friday, May 2.  Noah Hullings and Alex McKay both had one RBI.
Penn Yan topped Palmyra-Macedon 6-2, Monday, April 28.
Boys lacrosse
The Penn Yan boys varsity lacrosse team fell to Penfield, 16-5, Saturday, May 3.
Penfield claimed an early lead with three goals in the first quarter and five in the second.  At halftime, the Mustangs trailed 8-2.
Bradley Voigt and Rion Davison each had two goals and one assist.  Sean Emerson scored once.  In the goal, Brandon Maciejewski had four saves, while Gage Ponsetti had one.
Penn Yan lost to Fairport, 11-7, Tuesday, April 29. Emerson scored three goals. Voigt and Austin Fingar each had two goals.  John Luppino added one assist.   Maciejewski had 14 saves.
Tennis
The Penn Yan varsity tennis team beat Midlakes, 4-1, Friday, May 2.
In singles, John Foster beat Jordan House, 6-3, 6-4.  Griffin Angell defeated Gavin Record, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.  In doubles, Dan Ledgerwood and Dan Gleason beat Garrett Burke and Tyler Boylan, 6-0, 6-0.  Nate Christensen and Noah Terpolilli beat Dean Brickle and Rick Munger, 6-0, 6-1.
Penn Yan beat Waterloo, 5-0, Monday, April 28. Foster beat Evan Pfiefer, 10-0. Angell beat Justin Bailey, 10-3.  Joe Coriale beat James Fisher, 10-2. Ledgerwood and Gleason defeated Luke Mastin and Ean Fisher, 10-2. Christensen and Terpolilli won by forfeit.

Dundee boys split doubleheader against Red Jacket
SHORTSVILLE—Dundee’s varsity baseball team won one and lost one to Red Jacket in a doubleheader, Friday, May 2.
The Scots won 12-7 and lost 9-2.  Paul Pollack was 4-for-4, with two RBIs.  Nick Machuga had one RBI and scored four runs for Dundee.
The Scots lost to Marcus Whitman, 8-5, in an away game, Monday, April 28.
Softball
The Dundee varsity softball team lost a doubleheader to Red Jacket, Saturday, May 3.  The final scores were 3-1 and 11-3.
Caitlyn Cornish, Megan Howell, Olivia Taylor, and Evie Woodruff each had a hit.
Dundee lost to Marcus Whitman, 7-4, Monday, April 28.
Track and field
The Dundee boys varsity track team beat Red Jacket, Harley Allendale Columbia, and Sodus, Tuesday, April 29.  The girls were fourth.
Jon Huber claimed first in the 100 meter dash (12.03), first in the 200 meter dash (24.93), and fourth in the high jump (5’04.00”).  Andrew Davis was first in the 800 meter run (2:15.87), second in the 3200 meter run (11:42.33), and third in the 1600 meter run (4:57.44).  Brennan Krall won first in the pole vault (7’06.00”).
Cody Salvatore placed first in the long jump (18’10.50”) and first in the triple jump (40’04.25”).  Justin Brace was second in the high jump (5’06.00”), second in the long jump (18’08.00”), and second in the triple jump (38’11.50).  Chris Cramer took first in the 400 meter hurdles (1:03.06) and third in the 110 meter hurdles (17.81).
In the shot put, Lance Irwin won first (39’01.00”), Jeffrey Wood second (33’02.00”), and Bradley Smith third (33’00.50”).  Irwin was second in the discus (100’06”) and Wood third (93’07”).  Dominic Lyons placed fifth in the 800 meter run (2:40.26)
For the girls, the 4x400 meter relay team placed second (6:05.84) and the 4x100 meter relay team placed third (1:00.84).  In the high jump, Anna Gilbert took second (4’02.00”) and Jeanette Jayne third (3’09.00”).
Nolleen Whetham won first in the long jump (12’10.50”), third in the 100 meter dash (14.34), and fourth in the 200 meter dash (30.37).  Caitlin Schenck placed fourth in the shot put (23’05.00”).  Nicole Radcliff tied for third in the discus (78’02”).  Andi Wood was fifth in the 100 meter dash (14.84).  Jessica Prior took fifth in the 100 meter hurdles (21.43).  Taylor Heitman was fifth in the long jump (11’11.00”) and fifth in the triple jump (23’11.00”).

Hammondsport softball tops Canisteo
CANISTEO—The Lakers’ varsity softball team beat Canisteo Greenwood, 4-3, in an away game, Friday, May 2.
Victoria Yahn had 10 strikeouts for the win.  Emily Davis had a triple and scored two runs for Hammondsport.  Aly Binnert had a triple, two RBIs, and scored a run.  Olivia Fitzwater scored one run.  Olivia Makarick and Shanea Campbell each had one RBI.
The Hammondsport softball team came from behind in the bottom of the seventh to beat Campbell Savona, 6-5, Monday, April 28.  Korynne House, Morgan Hess, and Fitzwater scored in the third; Sydney McGinn had one RBI, while Binnert had two.  Jillian Farmer hit a homerun with no one on in the fourth to get the score within one point.   Yahn drove Campbell in for the tie. House hit a triple with bases loaded to seal the win.
Golf
The Hammondsport varsity golf team lost to Bath, 20-35, Friday, May 2.
Jared McAllister led the Lakers with a low of 48, the second lowest score of the match.  Aaron Lowin followed with a 55 and Parker Watson with a 58.  Taylin Bower and Cameron McConnell both scored 60 to tie in fifth place.
Track and field
The Hammondsport girls varsity track team beat Campbell-Savona and Bradford, Tuesday, April 29.  The boys beat Bradford, but lost to Campbell.
In the 100 meter dash, Liz Albright and Allison Gilbert tied for first with a time of 14.2, followed by Tanessa Whitney with 14.3.  Albright won first in the 200 meter dash (29.2), while Gilbert was second (29.5).  McKenna Wise was first in the 400 meter dash (1:08.07) and Lori Gordon was second (1:10.09).
Gordon and Albright tied for first in the triple jump (28’11”).  Gilbert took second in the long jump (12’), while Wise was third (11’3”).  Lexi Salisbury was third in the 110 meter hurdles (21.1).  Brittany Morgan took second in the 800 meter run (3:00.8).
For the boys, J.C. Baliguin claimed first in the 110 meter hurdles (18.9), first in the 400 meter hurdles (1:06.9), and second in the long jump (14’4”).  Cameron Jensen was third in the long jump (13’), third in the triple jump (26’6”), and third in the high jump (4’6”).
In the 200 meter dash, Graham O’Donnell was second (27.8) and Kenny Becker was third (28.6).  O’Donnell was second in the 400 meter dash (1:01.4), followed by Jared Raab in third (1:02.7).  Raab  also took second in the 3200 meter run (12:17.9).  Becker was third in the 100 meter dash (13.6).

Watkins boys, girls place 11th at track meet
ODESSA—The Watkins Glen boys and girls varsity track teams both placed 11th at the annual Legends of the Night track meet, Friday, May 2.
For the boys, Matt Gill won first in the 800 meter run (1:59.33). Patrick Hazlitt was third in the 1600 meter run (4:53.24). Jacob Carocci placed 10th in the 800 meter run (2:16.91) and 14th in the high jump (5’00.00”). Shawn Rutledge was sixth in the 3200 meter run (10:44.25) and 15th in the 400 meter hurdles (1:11.54).
Aidan DeBolt took 16th in the 400 meter dash (59.87). Thomas Schmitt was 13th in the discus (95’00.00”) and 12th in the shot put (35’06.00”), while Matt Woodworth took eighth in the pole vault (9’00.00”). Ryan Pruitt placed 14th in the long jump (16’05.00”) and 17th in the triple jump (30’10.00”).
Taylor Kennard was second in the 3000 meter run (11:58.97) for the girls. Maggie Bond placed eighth in the 1500 meter run (5:35.38). De’naja Blanchard took sixth in the 200 meter dash (29.53), while Isobel Scheffey was seventh in the 400 meter dash (1:06.57). Lindsey Suddaby took seventh in the pole vault (7’06.00”). Lucy Craig placed eighth in the shot put (26’03.00”) and ninth in the discus (77’03.00”). Claire McManus took 10th in the triple jump (27’02.50”). Joelle Slater was 11th in the 400 meter hurdles (1:24.14). Clara Chedzoy placed 13th in the 800 meter run (2:46.53). Julia Reilly was 13th in the 3000 meter run (14:32.84).
Baseball
The Watkins Glen varsity baseball team lost to Newark Valley, 6-5, Saturday, May 3.
Brennon DeMeritt pitched a complete game and took the loss, while John Smith catched.  Brendan Hunter and Jared Carocci had two hits each and  Smith added one hit.  Dakota Lodge had two RBIs.
The Senecas lost to Notre Dame, Friday, May 2.  The final score was 16-1.
Watkins had one hit each by  Smith, Hunter, Lodge (plus one RBI), and Adam Tuttle.
The Senecas lost to Waverly, 20-1, Monday, April 28.
Watkins had three hits: one each by Sam Pulis, Lodge, and  Carocci, with one RBI.
Boys golf
The Watkins Glen varsity golf team beat Waverly, Thursday, May 1.  The final score was 231-250.
For Watkins, Keith Rekczis led with a score of 42.  Mitch Mangus had 45, while Will Pastick had 46.  Ryan Clark scored 47.  Trentin Barber golfed a 51.
Girls golf
The Watkins girls varsity golf team beat Elmira, but lost to Horseheads, Monday, April 28.  The Senecas score was 220, while Horseheads had 202 and Elmira 276.
Halle Phillips led with a 45, followed by Hanley Elliott with 54 and Courtney Irwin with 58.  Gabi Decker golfed a 63.  Emily Doppel had 79.
Softball
The Watkins Glen varsity softball team lost to Waverly, 17-2, Monday, April 28.  The Senecas had two runs and four hits, from Amanda Cherock, Alexis Gonzalez, Mikayla Elliott and Alexis Naylor.

Odessa hosts ‘Legends of the Night’ track meet
ODESSA—The Odessa-Montour varsity track team hosted their annual Legends of the Night track meet, Friday, May 2.  Odessa’s boys were 13th overall, while the girls were 12th.
For the girls, Rosie Peckham took fourth in the high jump (4’04.00”), while Maia Rumsey was 12th (4’02.00”).
Dana Roberts took fourth in the long jump (14’07.00”) and seventh in the 100 meter dash. Hailie Searles was sixth in the 3000 meter run (12:26.96).
Sarah Simmons placed seventh in the shot put (26’07.50”) and seventh in the discus (78’08.00”). Haile Perrault took 16th in the 400 meter dash (1:10.67). April Dunn was 17th in the 1500 meter dash (5:54.27) and Callie Stillman took 12th place in the 400 meter hurdles (1:24.54).
Bryce Elliott took third in the discus (120’03.00”) and sixth in the shot put (38’08.00”). Charles Sidle was seventh in the long jump (17’04.00”) and ninth in the triple jump (36’02.00”). Andy Fudala placed seventh in the 110 meter hurdles (18.71), 10th in the 400 meter hurdles (1:09.75), and 10th in the pole vault (8’06.00”).
In the high jump, Tyler Goossen was 12th (5’02.00”) followed by Chad Sykes in 13th (5’00.00”). Luke Eberhardt scored 11th in the 1600 meter run (5:13.05) and 16th in the 800 meter run (2:23.18). Andy Stevenson was 17th in the 3200 meter run (12:58.34). Nick Sgrecci placed 15th in the triple jump (32’04.00”).
Tennis
The Odessa-Montour varsity tennis team lost to Waverly, 7-0, Friday, May 2.
In singles, Joey Collins fell 6-2, 6-2; Curtis Harris, 6-7 (10-8), 6-4; Frank Carson 6-4, 1-1; and Sam Norton 6-2, 6-1.  In doubles, Manley Gavich and Kourtny Cook lost 6-2, 6-7(8-6), 6-2; Andy Doan and Billy Tague, 6-2, 6-3; and Collin Povoski and Hayley Guild, 6-4, 6-2.
Softball
The Odessa-Montour varsity softball team fell to Tioga, 15-0, Thursday, May 1.  Maddie Lodge had two strikeouts, four walks, and nine hits.  Jordan Little caught for Lodge.
