SPORTS RECAP: Week of 5-8-19

Seneca Indians defeat Lansing, fall to Edison
LANSING--The Seneca Indians varsity baseball team beat Lansing, 11-10, Saturday, May 4.
Sean Kelly posted two hits and had three RBIs. Josiah Wysocki earned two RBIs. On the pitcher's mound, Derrick Lewis struck out eight.
The combined Watkins/Odessa team fell to Thomas A. Edison, 4-3, Wednesday, May 1.
The Seneca Indians took an early lead in the second inning and held the score to 2-0 until Edison scored a run in the fifth inning. Both teams scored in the sixth, but Edison earned another two runs in the final inning.
Johnny Niedermaier had two hits and two RBIs.
Pitching, Isaac McIlroy struck out three.
Track and field
The Watkins Glen boys varsity track and field teams took ninth at Odessa's Legends of the Night Invitational, Friday, May 3.
Gabe Planty placed first in the 3200 meter run (9:52.20). Max Evans was second in the high jump (5'8") and sixth in the 800 meter run (2:13.00). Nick Wilston finished seventh in the long jump (17'8.5") and eighth in the triple jump (36'6.75").
Sam Thorsland took 10th in the 1600 meter run (5:15.69). Casen Weeden was 11th in the discus (99'4"). Elliott Holland placed 15th in the 400 meter hurdles (1:17.57).
The Senecas' girls were 15th overall.
Jena Slater was fifth in the pole vault (7'6"). Breanna Carl took eighth in the 1500 meter run (5:40.21). Haley Dean was 11th in the 200 meter dash (29.25). Kai Sutterby was 12th in the 400 meter dash (1:10.05).
The 400 meter relay team (Maya Somerville, Madelyn Suddaby, Slater, and Dean) placed 10th with a 58.13.
The Senecas boys track and field teams beat Notre Dame, 91-26, Tuesday, April 30.
Weeden took first in the 400 meter dash, shot put, and discus. Wilston placed first in the long jump and triple jump. Jordan Avery won the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, and was third in the high jump.
Evans finished first in the 800 meter run and high jump, and third in the shot put. Tim Clifford was first in the 400 meter hurdles. Nathan Murphy placed first in the 110 meter hurdles, while Planty was first in the 3200 meter run.
The girls lost to Notre Dame, 103-15. Dean won the 200 meter dash and was third in the 100 meter dash. Carl was second in the 3000 meter run and third in the 1500 meter run.
Breanna Hayes placed second in the 400 meter hurdles. Sutterby took third in the 800 meter run. Suddaby finished third in the 200 meter dash.
Softball
The Watkins Glen varsity softball team was beaten by Elmira Notre Dame in five innings, Friday, May 3. The final score was 19-0.
The Senecas' fell to Spencer-Van Etten, Tuesday, April 30. The final score was 15-0.
Lacrosse
The Senecas' varsity lacrosse team lost to Maine Endwell, Monday, April 29. The final score was 13-4. Joe Chedzoy scored twice for Watkins. Seamus Mooney and Nate VanAmburg both had one goal.
Connor Novinsky had 15 saves in the goal.
Tennis
The Senecas' varsity tennis team blanked Waverly, Monday, April 29. The final score was 7-0.
Nathaniel Wickham won against Seth Lloyd, 6-2, 6-2. Dylan Morse topped Collin Keefer, 6-1, 6-0. Clint Craven defeated Caleb Wilcox, 6-0, 6-0. Peter Sandritter notched a win against Gauge Johnson Mumme, 6-0, 6-0.
Jill Cantieni and Hannah Morse beat Declan Murphy and Haley Onofre, 6-1, 6-0. Alexandria LaMoreaux and Bryson Simmons defeated Justice Johnson and Preston Tompkins, 6-0, 6-0. Kathleen Clifford and Enkang Lin topped Chloe Croft and Siara Tompkins, 6-2, 6-1.

Odessa hosts Legends of the Night track meet
ODESSA--The Odessa-Montour boys varsity track and field team was third in Odessa's own Legends of the Night Invitational Friday, May 3. The girls placed fourth overall, both out of 17 teams present.
For the boys, Zach Elliott won the discus event (135'2") and was first in the shot put (53'5.5"). Paden Grover was first in the high jump (5'10") and third in the 110 meter hurdles (17.66). Preston Harris placed second in the 110 meter hurdles (16.30), while Eric Rumsey took second in the discus (116'2").
Noah Brewster finished third in the 400 meter dash (55.62). Dylan Houseknecht was fourth in the shot put (38'7"). Andrew Hartford took third in the pole vault (12'0").
For the girls, Kennedey Heichel was first in the pole vault (10'2" - school record) and first in the 100 meter hurdles (16.76). Nadia Simpson took second in the 100 meter dash (13.07) and fourth in the 200 meter dash (27.65). Tori Brewster placed second in the long jump (15'5.25") and sixth in the 400 meter dash (1:05.41).
Hannah Bruno was fourth in the triple jump (31'9.5"), while Lexi Saunders finished fifth in the shot put (28'6"). Hannah Nolan was sixth in the 100 meter hurdles (18.25) and seventh in the triple jump (30'8"). Camille Sgrecci placed sixth in the pole vault (6'6"). Morgan Burnham took eighth in the 800 meter run (2:43.68). Autumn Garrison was 10th in the discus (67'2").
Softball
Odessa-Montour's varsity softball team fell to Marathon, 15-2, Tuesday, April 30.
Lydia Lynch was 2-for-4, with the team's one RBI. Isabel Foote was also 2-for-4. Sam Sipes and Grace Vondracek rounded out the team's hits with one apiece.
On the pitcher's mound, Vondracek earned four strikeouts, while Lynch had one.
The Indians' softball team lost to Groton, Monday, April 29. The final score was 1-0.
Dezirae Minnier was 1-for-3, while Isabel Foote was 1-for-4 at bat. Foote also earned a double. Pitching, Vondracek struck out 19 batters.
Golf
The Odessa-Montour varsity golf team secured a win against Waverly, 279-300, Wednesday, May 1.
Noah Hollenbeck led with a 45, followed by Tyler Saunders with a 46. Eliza Starkweather posted a 59. Brett Walters added a 63. Austin Hoyt carded a 66.
With the win, the Indians' record is now 2-6.
Odessa's golf team fell to Elmira Notre Dame, 224-305, Tuesday, April 30.
Hollenbeck posted a 52. Saunders recorded a 56. Starkweather added a 63, while Walters earned a 66. Alex Willette had a 68.
Tennis
The Odessa-Montour varsity tennis team lost to Newark Valley, 4-3, Tuesday, April 30.
Dylan Von Neida defeated Colby Davis, 6-3, 6-1. Rhys Stermer beat Natalie Shofkom, 6-2, 6-4. Sara Gardner won against Mackenna Nechwedowich, 6-1, 6-0.
The Indians fell to Southern Cayuga, Monday, April 29. The final score was 5-2.
Von Neida beat Riky Pearson, 6-0, 6-2. Gardner topped Sam Perez, 6-4, 6-7, 6-2.

Dundee softball records two wins; baseball loses
BLOOMFIELD--The Lady Scots varsity softball team topped Bloomfield, Friday, May 3. The final score was 10-4.
Mercedez Roy was 3-for-4. Alyssah Newell was 2-for-4, with two RBIs. On the pitcher's mound, Megan Sutherland struck out five.
Dundee defeated Naples, 8-2, Wednesday, May 1.
As the winning pitcher, Sutherland posted five strikeouts. Abby Miller was 3-for-3 at bat. Sutherland and Hallie Empson both were 2-for-4.
Baseball
The Scots' varsity baseball team was beaten by Marcus Whitman in a home game, Saturday, May 4. The final score was 17-4.
Dundee's boys fell to Naples, 9-3, Wednesday, May 1.
Track and field
The Dundee track and field teams hosted a home meet, Tuesday, April 30. Recording wins for the Scots were: Matt Wood (1600 Meter Run - 4:42.87, 3200 Meter Run - 10:30.82), 4x100 Meter Relay team (Nic Laursen, Austin Brace, Brady Richardson and Preston Cratsley - 46.76) and Lily Hall (Long Jump - 15' 9", Triple Jump - 33' 3.25").

Tennis tops Campbell-Savona 3-2
CAMPBELL--The Prattsburgh-Avoca-Hammondsport varsity tennis team topped Campbell-Savona, 3-2, Thursday, May 2.
All of the wins were in the single matches. Colin Drain beat Nicholas Reed 6-1, 6-2. Nolan Randall won against Jacqueline Hess 6-0, 6-2. Ryan Stanford defeated Kyle Fitzpatrick 6-2, 6-1.
The combined tennis team lost to Alfred-Almond, Wednesday, May 1. The final score was 5-0.
Prattsburgh-Avoca-Hammondsport beat Bath, 3-2, Monday, April 29.
Randall won against Dequan Jones 6-1, 6-2. Jeremiah Hubbard and Elijah Lenhard defeated Brianna Sinsebox and Victoria Cleveland 6-3, 6-4. Isabelle Beecher and Hannah Stewart beat Braelynne Seager and Arlene Yahn 7-5, 6-2.
Softball
The Bradford/Hammondsport varsity softball team defeated Alfred-Almond in an away game, Friday, May 3. The final score was 5-2.
The combined softball team notched a shutout against Belfast, Tuesday, April 30. The final score was 16-0.
Track and field
The Hammondsport boys varsity track and field teams took ninth in the John Reed Memorial Invitational, Saturday, May 4.
George Drake took third in the 800 meter run (2:24.06) and seventh in the 1600 meter run (5:08.53). John Wells was fourth in the high jump (5'4") and 15th in the 200 meter dash (27.45).
Lane Simpson was seventh in the 400 meter hurdles (1:10.78). Eli Hill placed ninth in the 1600 meter run (5:22.18) and 12th in the 800 meter run (2:45.43). Skylar Freville finished 14th in the 400 meter dash (1:04.51).
Golf
The Lakers' varsity golf team hosted both Addison and Wellsville, Monday, April 29.
Hammondsport beat Wellsville. Parker Watson led with a 40. Nigel Snyder had a 46. Matthew Cole followed with a 50. Ben Cole had a 51, while Noah Wilkinson added a 55.
The Lakers fell to Addison. Watson had a 40, followed by Nigel Snyder's 46.

Penn Yan girls lacrosse records three wins
LIVONIA--The Penn Yan girls varsity lacrosse team defeated Livonia, 16-4, Saturday, May 4.
Grace Ledgerwood and Sydney Hulse each scored four times, while Ledgerwood also had an assist. Hayley Andersen posted three goals and two assists. Reilly Cohick and Jammie Decker both had two goals. Allison Winslow scored one goal and had three assists. Avery Castner, Kaley Griffin, and Bre Lane-Tomion also had an assist each. Goalie Alexandra Cox earned three saves.
The Lady Mustangs topped Mynderse-Romulus, Friday, May 3. The final score was 13-7.
Griffin and Ledgerwood led with three goals and one assist, while Hulse also added three goals to the score. Winslow scored twice, with three assists. Castner earned two goals and one assist.
Andersen assisted twice. Decker and Lane-Tomion both had one assist. Cox had 10 saves in goal.
Penn Yan notched a win against Newark-Midlakes, 12-6, Wednesday, May 1.
Andersen posted three goals and three assists, while Hulse also scored three goals. Winslow, Griffin, and Ledgerwood earned two goals. Winslow also assisted once. Cohick assisted three times, while Lane-Tomion assisted once. In the goal, Cox posted four saves.
Boys lacrosse
Penn Yan's boys varsity lacrosse team lost a close game to Westhill, 5-4, Friday, May 3.
Conner Fingar scored two goals and assisted once. Colton Smith also earned two goals. Jeff Kinyoun posted 12 saves in the goal.
The Mustangs fell to McQuaid Jesuit in a non-league game, Tuesday, April 30. The final score was 5-4.
Fingar led with two goals and one assist. Devon Gerhardt and Mekhi Mahan both had one goal. Ayden Mowry assisted once. Kinyoun had eight saves.
Track and field
Penn Yan competed at East Rochester, Tuesday, April 30.
For the boys, David Young was third in the 1600 meter run (5:27.04) and 10th in the 800 meter run (2:36.34). James Tette was fourth in the 1600 meter run (5:28.34). Dominic Lafferty finished sixth in the 110 meter hurdles (19.34), seventh in the 1600 meter run (5:47.04), seventh in the high jump (4'9"), and 10th in the long jump (16'5").
Daniel Jiang took seventh in the triple jump (34'10"), ninth in the 400 meter dash (1:00.94), and ninth in the long jump (16'6"). Zachary Smith was ninth in the 3000 meter steeplechase (13:47.44). Alec Bensen placed 10th in the 1600 meter run (7:09.84).
For the girls, Joddie Decker was first in the 1500 meter run (5:04.34) and fifth in the 800 meter run (2:46.34). Gracie Murphy was first in the 2000 meter steeplechase (8:14.04) and sixth in the 800 meter run (2:48.84). Rachel Wheeler finished fifth in the 1500 meter run (6:08.94) and ninth in the 800 meter run (2:58.44). Jaina Doyle took third in the 2000 meter steeplechase (8:37.54) and eighth in the 800 meter run (2:52.64).
Softball
The Penn Yan varsity softball team defeated Bath, 4-3, Tuesday, April 30.
Serina Sheradin posted a triple at bat. Defensively, Sheradin had two pickoffs on third base. On the pitcher's mound, Kayla Andersen allowed only one walk.
The Lady Mustangs fell to Waterloo, 26-1, Monday, April 29. Taylor Hight scored on a pass-ball for Penn Yan.
Baseball
The Penn Yan varsity baseball team suffered a loss to Wellsville, 9-8, in an away game, Wednesday, May 1.
Matt Lerch was 2-for-2 at bat, with one RBI. Brennan Prather also earned a hit, three RBIs, and a double. Peyton Schuck was 1-for-3, with an RBI and a triple, and Will Steele was 1-for-1, with one RBI.
The Mustangs lost to Waterloo, 12-4, Monday, April 29.
Andrew Garren was 2-for-4, with one RBI. Schuck and Mason MacKerchar were both 1-for-3. Schuck's hit was a double.
Tennis
Penn Yan's varsity tennis team fell to Wayne, 5-0, Monday, April 29.
The scores in singles were: Brian Hollister, 6-0, 6-1; Cole Egburtson, 6-0, 6-2; and Max Baker, 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles, the scores were: Lukas Spears and Jeremy Fenton, 6-1, 6-2; and Connor Hunter and Spencer Christensen, 6-1, 6-1.
