WATKINS GLEN--Watkins Glen International has announced that Hurley Haywood has been named Grand Marshal of the 2019 Hilliard U.S. Vintage Grand Prix, Sept. 5-8.
"The name Hurley Haywood is synonymous with sportscar racing, especially at The Glen," Watkins Glen International President Michael Printup said. "He is a true living legend of our sport and a key part of racing history on and off the track. We are honored to have Hurley serve as Grand Marshal for this year's Hilliard U.S. Vintage Grand Prix."
One of the world's most decorated endurance racing drivers, Haywood has an impressive resume in multiple forms of motorsport, including five overall victories at the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona, three at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and two at the 12 Hours of Sebring.
He is no stranger to The Glen, competing in sportscars, IROC and open-wheel series, highlighted by a third-place podium finish in the 2000 Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen. Haywood is also well associated with Peter Gregg and the iconic Brumos Porsche Racing, with their first race together taking place at Watkins Glen in 1969, winning the GT class and eventual 1971 and 1972 GT championships.
A resident of St. Augustine, Florida, Haywood is an Ambassador of Porsche Jacksonville, formerly known as Brumos Porsche. He serves as a chief driving instructor for the Porsche Sport Driving School. In 2017, the Hurley Haywood Scholarship was announced to help provide a young IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge driver partial funding to compete in the prestigious one-make series.
The Hilliard U.S. Vintage Grand Prix at The Glen will be held Sept. 5-8, featuring the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) and Trans-Am Championship. For tickets and additional information, log on to www.theglen.com or call 1-866-461-RACE.
