Squires pleads guilty in Keuka boating case

WAYNE—In Wayne town court Thursday, Aug. 27, Mark C. Squires pled guilty to boating while intoxicated in the accidental drowning of Richard V. O’Dell on Keuka Lake.
Mathew McCarthy, assistant district attorney for Steuben County, said this resolves the July 25 death of O’Dell, 45, of Morrcrest Drive in Corning.
“There will be no other charges,” he said.  McCarthy added that Squires, 40, of Davenport Road in Big Flats, was originally charged with operating a vessel while under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol content (BAC) greater that 0.08 percent, and reckless operation of a vessel.  He explained that at court Aug. 27, Squires was only charged with operating a boat with a BAC higher than .08.  McCarthy said Squires’s BAC was .11 when O’Dell fell out of the boat.
Wayne Justice Sandra Orr ruled that Squires pay $935, which he paid in cash at court.  McCarthy added that Squires’ boating license was suspended for six months, in accordance with navigational law.
