Starkey appoints Muller to planning board

STARKEY—The Starkey town board appointed resident Pete Muller as a member of the town planning board during their meeting Thursday, Oct. 4.
Muller said he has been a land owner in Starkey for 30 years and has been a permanent resident for the past seven years as well as owner of The Pearl of Seneca Lake Bed and Breakfast. He said he volunteered to become a member of the planning board in order to help preserve the beauty and nature of the town.
Muller said he has no issues with the current zoning plan, and that without a good zoning plan, it is impossible to maintain the town environment he has come to love.
“Diversity is a good thing as long as we are aware of its effects on the environment and other areas,” Muller said. “We need to make sure it has no adverse effect.”
The board said Muller’s term will expire in March of 2019 and that he will serve a seven year term.
    In other business:
    • The board scheduled budget and fire contract public hearings for Thursday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Starkey Town Hall.
    • The board discussed which New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) rebates to apply for. Clerk Sue Crans said they are offering up to 75 percent off on certain items and will apply for necessary office items like printers, surge protectors and refrigerators.
The next town board meeting is Thursday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m.
