StarShine moves to Saturday evening

PENN YAN--When the Penn Yan village comes together for the annual StarShine holiday celebration, it will be on a new evening for the event. The 34th edition of the Christmas celebration will be held Saturday, Dec. 1 instead of the traditional Friday. Activities will take place from 4 to 7 p.m.
The arrival of Santa, activities for children and the crowning of Miss Penn Yan for 2019 are among the events for the evening.
The Miss Penn Yan candidates can found in a related story on page 3. The program for the crowning of the winner will be on the stage at 5 p.m. Main Street in the village will close at 3 p.m. to traffic to allow the street vendors time to set up.
An elf school along with other activities will be available at the Penn Yan Firehouse and the Pennsylvania Yankee Theatre Company's Sampson Theatre will feature a festive holiday display during the event.
There will also be horse-drawn wagon rides in the village, and a number of downtown businesses will feature holiday specials throughout the night. The downtown village park will host Santa's village with the opportunity for a photo with Santa and music will be played for visitors.
