PENN YAN--The Penn Yan middle school Drama Club will begin their three-day production of "High School Musical Jr." this weekend. Based on the Disney Channel's high school movie-musical, the performances will run from Friday, Feb. 6 through Sunday, Feb. 8 at the Penn Yan middle school auditorium. The musical is directed by Rebekah Prine.

The story focuses on the characters Troy, Gabriella and the students of the fictional East High. Throughout the musical, the characters portrayed by the students must deal with the issues of first love, friends and family while balancing their classes and extra-curricular activities.
The film the musical is based on was originally released in 2006. The success of the original film led to two sequels along with the musical adaptation being performed by the students in the Drama Club this weekend.
Show times are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $6 for students and seniors, while they are $8 for adults. Tickets can be purchased from a cast or crew member or at the door.
