Stun gun gets teacher arrested

WATKINS GLEN—Kathryn E. Bartholomew, 50, of Montour Falls was arrested by Watkins Glen Village Police Friday, May 2, in relation to a student possessing an illegal stun gun. Bartholomew, a teacher at the Watkins Glen Central School District, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree and endangering the welfare of a child, both class A misdemeanors. The charges stem from an investigation of a Watkins Glen high school student possessing an electronic stun gun on a school bus. Details as to how the stun gun was linked to Bartholomew were not forthcoming.
According to a statement issued by Watkins Glen Superintendent Tom Phillips, the school district is cooperating with the Watkins Glen Village Police Department regarding the incident. He said the district employee has been relieved of her duties at the school pending the results of an investigation. Phillips said the district is following their code of conduct relating to any disciplinary action, and because this is a personnel matter, the district will make no further comment.
Bartholomew was issued an appearance ticket to the village of Watkins Glen court to appear June 12 at 3 p.m. The investigation is still pending.
