Tea Party turns out in Penn Yan, April 15

PENN YAN—The Tea Party event in Penn Yan April 15 was a success according to organizer Sandy King, calling the approximately 175 to 200 who participated, “A terrific turnout.”
Tea Party events were held in several areas of the state as well as in Washington D.C. The grass roots movement aims to get people involved in government, such as in speaking to representatives and candidates for public office. One aim is term limits.
King said the Tea Party movement is very positive and people are united by common goals and beliefs. She said the group feels people are taxed too much and the country is not going in the right direction. An ongoing goal is to get people out to vote.
The group will meet again at 7 p.m. April 29 in the Yates County office building. King said she hopes they will want to march in parades and, “I imagine we will do something on the Fourth of July.”
Reflecting on the day’s activities, King commented, “These people did a fabulous job.”
