The Observer earns national photo award

COLUMBIA, MO—The National Newspaper Association has named the winners of the 2014 Better Newspaper Contest.
Brandon Lawson, multimedia manager for The Observer and the Watkins Glen REVIEW&EXPRESS, earned the photo essay award for the entry, “A weekend of racing action at Watkins Glen International.” NNA Contests and Awards Committee Chair Jeff Farren, president and publisher of the Kendall County Record Newspapers, Inc. in Yorkville, Illinois congratulated the contest winners and said, “The winners reflect the high quality of publications represented by the association.”
The Observer’s President and Publisher George Lawson said, “Readers in our circulation area see the quality each week of Brandon’s award-winning work from news, sports and feature photography throughout the year.”
There were 1,862 entries in the Better Newspaper Contest and newspapers from 40 states submitted their work.
