Truck crashes, blocks traffic in Watkins for three hours

WATKINS GLEN—A truck crash Tuesday, April 14 in Watkins Glen, that blocked traffic on Franklin Street from 3:20 to 6:45 p.m., is under investigation.
Watkins Glen Police Chief Tom Struble said the truck, carrying tires and rims, was driving "at an excessive speed" where the road curves.  The driver lost control and the truck rolled.  It landed on its side, over both lanes of traffic, right near First Street.  Struble said no one was hurt though.
The Department of Transportation brought in a payloader to right the truck.  Struble said it was a major cleanup, and that even some tires ended up a block away.  The Schuyler County Sheriff's Office, state police, DOT, and fire departments for Watkins Glen, Burdett, Montour and Tyrone were also present.
The DOT and the state police are investigating the accident.  Dorothy Nisbet, with the DOT, said as of Wednesday morning, they did not have any new information.
