Tyrone forms volunteer cemetery group

TYRONE—The Tyrone town board created a volunteer group to maintain the Wayne Village Cemetery, at the Tuesday, June 14, meeting.
At the same time, paperwork is being filled with the state to take over control of the cemetery.  Residents have expressed concerns over the cemetery’s condition.  Officials have explained the original cemetery association members have all passed away years ago.
In other business:  A resolution was passed for the court to use acquired grant money toward new windows, heat runs, thermostat, and weatherizing the doors of the meeting room.
    • County Legislator Dennis Fagan reported that the public transit system has expanded its services to rural communities. The program is called Dial-A-Ride.  The cost is $4 for a one-way ride to Watkins Glen.
    • Some highway projects are about a month behind because of the wet spring.
The town board will meet next on July 12, in the public meeting room at 7 p.m.
