Vonneida gets another 21 years

SCHUYLER COUNTY—Daryl E. Vonneida, 63, of 1363 Price Road, Montour Falls, was sentenced to 21 years in state prison, with 10 years post release supervision in Schuyler County court Thursday, Dec. 19. The sentence will be served in a federal prison due to his recently being sentenced to a life sentence in federal court. The defendant previously pled guilty to three counts of: course of sexual conduct against a child in the second degree, April 11, 2013. The charges stem from incidents that occurred between January, 2002 and September, 2011, whereby it is alleged he sexually abused three boys under the age of 13. During the course of these offenses, it is alleged that the defendant would strangle, or mock execute, these victims, and then videotape the incidents as he subjected the boys to sexual contact. When arguing for the maximum sentence, Chief Assistant District Attorney Matthew C. Hayden stated during sentencing, this was the fourth offense of this sort that the defendant had committed, and the defendant’s criminal history reflected convictions of this nature from 1970, 1978 and 1988. Hayden also highlighted that even though the defendant will spend the rest of his life in prison, he has subjected numerous victims to a lifetime of suffering due to his actions. Judge Dennis Morris sentenced the defendant to the maximum on each count, which was seven years, and ran them consecutively with one another for a total of 21 years.
