Voters pass Penn Yan capital project

PENN YAN--Voters of the Penn Yan school district approved the resolution to complete a $16,234,575 capital improvement project.
The vote results were 425 "yes" and 229 voted against the plan.
Howard Dennis, superintendent of the Penn Yan school district said the school administrators will be spending the next few months working out the timing details for the work.
Dennis added, "We are very appreciative of the support of the voters on this project. This approval continues the planned work for the district in maintaining and upgrading facilities with the least amount of impact on taxpayers."
The capital plan summary includes the following details:
Bus garage: construct a new bus garage to replace the existing one.
Middle school: renovation and expansion of the kitchen, replacement of worn-out finishes in the cafeteria, update outdated technology rooms and enhance the digital technology lab, upgrade the family and consumer sciences rooms, move offices from the elementary school to the middle school, expand the main entrance to include a secure vestibule and visitor check-in and modify locker rooms for enhanced visual safety.
High school stadium: Replace the synthetic turf and track surface.
Elementary school: replacement of window sills, realignment of the parking lot and relocation of the district office.
Construction will begin in 2018.
