Voters select school board members

TRI-COUNTY AREA--Area schools held their elections for school board candidates, the budget and propositions, Tuesday, May 15.
In Dundee, Brittany Gibson, Jessica Shepardson-Wood and Douglas Hammond were selected for school board positions. The candidates were elected with 258, 226 and 166 votes, respectively.
All three propositions passed. The school budget was approved 268-98, the transportation vehicle purchase passed 289-78 and the Dundee Library proposition went through with 262 yes and 104 no votes.
All five candidates for the Penn Yan school board election had vote totals that were close with only 64 votes separating the top finisher from the tie for fourth place. Emily Dinehart received 491 votes, Alicen Yonts 486 votes and Renee Bloom had 454 votes. Leslie Elliott and Aimee Perry were tied at 427 votes. Perry withdrew from the race, so Elliott secured the fourth seat on the board. It is an unexpired term for two years.
The Penn Yan budget passed 583-102, as did the transportation vote 581-107.
Hammondsport saw Carre Doyle elected to the five year board position with a total of 162 yes and 20 no votes.
The budget was approved 167-29.
Watkins Glen school board candidates Barbara Schimizzi and Kelly McCarthy were elected with 213 and 190 votes, respectively.
The budget passed 207-36 and the second proposition about leasing buses was approved 195-47.
The four Odessa-Montour candidates running for school board were elected. They included Dana Sgrecci (233 votes), Jeff Parmenter (232), Robert Halpin (224) and Karen Rock (224). Rock volunteered to take the one-year term.
The budget was approved 215-42, while a bus purchase passed 209-54. The Montour Falls Memorial Library levy increase had 165 yes and 104 no votes.
