Voters will head to the polls Nov. 3

TRI-COUNTY AREA--The upcoming general election Tuesday, Nov. 3 will feature several contested and uncontested races throughout the area. This includes legislative districts, as well as other town and county positions. All polling sites will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on election day.

CONTESTED YATES COUNTY ELECTIONS
At the Yates County level, voters will elect four of the seven available candidates for Legislative District III (Milo) and three of four candidates for District IV (Barrington and Starkey) in contested races. District III candidates include incumbent Leslie H. Church (Republican), challenger P. Earle Gleason (Republican), incumbent Daniel W. Banach (Republican), incumbent Mark W. Morris (Republican, Conservative, Reform Party), challenger Bill Laffin (Conservative, Reform Party), challenger Marsha Devine (Reform Party) and challenger Rob Schwarting (Independent Voice). District IV will feature Republican incumbents William R. Holgate, Bonnie L. Percy, James P. Multer and Integrity challenger Jack D. Ossont.
The clerk and coroner positions will also see contested elections. Lois E. Hall (Republican) and Virginia A. Fenton (Fenton for Yates) will be competing for the available clerk position. Republican challenger Brian C. Champlin will also be competing with incumbent Ronald E. Dailey (Shamrock Party) for the coroner position.


YATES TOWNS WITH A CONTESTED ELECTION
Milo residents will vote in a contested town council race Nov. 3. Challenger Valerie J. Brechko (Democrat) will be competing with incumbent Dale Hallings (Republican), incumbent Arden G. Sorensen Jr. (Republican) and challenger Mark W. Morris (Conservative, Reform Party) for two available seats. Incumbent supervisor Leslie H. Church (Republican) is running for reelection unopposed.
Potter's contested election will include Brian A. Bootes (Republican, Brian A. Bootes) and Terry L. Button (Reform Party) competing for an unexpired seat on the town council. Incumbents Larry J. Lewis (Republican) and June G. Pendleton (Republican, Voice of Agriculture) will be running unopposed for town council seats, while incumbent Deborah K. Huff-Tober (Republican, Justice and Fairness) is running unopposed for reelection to town justice.
Torrey's ballot features incumbent Linda K. Francisco (Republican), challenger Peter Martini (Democrat) and challenger Lawrence Martin (Action for Torrey) competing for seats on the town council. Incumbent Patrick H. Flynn (Republican) is running unopposed for supervisor, while incumbent Betty M. Daggett (Republican) is doing the same for town clerk/tax collector. Incumbent Timothy L. Chambers (Republican) is running unopposed for highway superintendent, while incumbent Jean K. Mashewske (Democrat) does the same for town justice.


CONTESTED STATE ELECTIONS
Voters in Yates and Steuben Counties will be selecting four candidates from Matthew D. Nafus (Democrat, Working Families), Deborah A. Indivino (Democrat), Ella Van Loon (Democrat), JoAnne Leegant (Democrat), James J. Piampiano (Republican, Conservative, Independence, Reform), Judy Sinclair (Republican, Conservative, Working Families, Independence, Reform), Craig Doran (Republican, Conservative, Working Families, Independence, Reform) and Bill Taylor (Republican, Conservative, Working Families, Independence, Reform) as winners of the state supreme court justice seventh district race.


UNCONTESTED YATES COUNTY ELECTIONS
Incumbent Sheriff Ron Spike will be running unopposed for his seat, which is also on the county ballot.


YATES TOWNS WITH NO CONTESTED ELECTIONS
The Legislative District I (Italy, Jerusalem and Middlesex) race will be uncontested, featuring newcomer Edward A. Bronson (Republican, Conservative) and incumbents Elden Morrison (Republican), Gary Montgomery (Republican) and Douglas Paddock (Republican, Conservative). District II (Benton, Potter and Torrey) will also be uncontested among the Republican Party, featuring newcomer Terry L. Button, along with incumbents Timothy J. Dennis and James E. Smith.
The town of Barrington will not see a contested election. Republican incumbent Supervisor Philip Warren will be seeking reelection, while Republican incumbents Susan Lange and Calvin Crosby will be seeking reelection to their town council positions.
Benton's races will also be uncontested, featuring all Republican candidates. Incumbent Supervisor John E. Prendergast is seeking reelection, along with incumbent councilpersons Alan D. Tomion and Richard J. Harper. Incumbent Town Clerk Bobbi Wolfe will be running for her seat, Tax Collector Mary Lilyea, Highway Superintendent Jeffery W. Mann, and Town Justice David J. Grace.
Italy's supervisor, town council, clerk/tax collector and highway superintendent races are uncontested. Republican Supervisor Margaret Dunn and Republican Town Clerk and Tax Collector Debbie J. Craig are seeking reelection to their respective positions. Town council members Richard Craig (Republican) and Malcolm Ian MacKenzie (Vote MacKenzie) are also running for reelection, while Steve Faulkner (Republican) is running for the highway superintendent position.
In Jerusalem, there will be uncontested elections for a supervisor, two town council spots, a clerk and highway superintendent. Republican incumbent Patrick Killen will be running unopposed for supervisor, while Republican incumbent Daryl H. Jones and challenger Paul R. Anderson will be running unopposed for town council seats. Republicans Sheila McMichael and Robert Martin will also be running unopposed for town clerk and highway superintendent respectively.
Starkey citizens will elect a supervisor, town clerk/tax collector/registrar, two council seats, a highway superintendent and town justice. Councilman George E. Lawson (Republican) is running unopposed for supervisor, while incumbent Sue Crans (Republican) does the same for town clerk/tax collector/registrar. Newcomer Jack. D. Ossont (Integrity) and incumbent Frederick R. Shoemaker (Republican) are also in an uncontested election for town council. Incumbent Louis L. Seeley (Republican) is running unopposed for reelection as highway superintendent, while incumbent Helen J. Halbritter (Republican) is running unopposed for town justice.


STEUBEN TOWNS WITH A CONTESTED ELECTION
The only contested election in Wayne is between incumbent E. David Bauer (Republican) and challenger Charles E. Swarthout (People 4 Change) for superintendent of highways. Joseph J. Hauryski (Republican) is running unopposed for District VIII legislator, as is incumbent Stephen Buchko (Our Town) for town supervisor. Town Clerk Beth E. Mooney (Republican) is running for reelection unopposed, while newcomer Shona Freeman (Our Town) runs unopposed for a council position. There is no candidate for town justice.


UNCONTESTED STEUBEN COUNTY ELECTIONS
At the Steuben County level, Brooks T. Baker (Republican, Conservative, Independence) is running unopposed for district attorney, while Judith M. Hunter (Republican, Conservative) runs unopposed for county clerk.
Steuben towns without a contested election
There will be no contested elections in the town of Urbana. Incumbent Mary M. Farmer (Republican, Conservative) is running alone for county clerk, while incumbent supervisor John Webster (Republican) also seeks reelection. Newcomer William K. Yahn (Republican) is alone in running for town justice, while incumbent Alzina L. Turner (Democrat) and newcomer David Shaw (Republican) run unopposed for two town council seats.

CONTESTED COUNTY ELECTIONS

Incumbent Republican Dennis A. Fagan will face off against Democratic challenger Sandra J. Rhodes for his District VIII seat.


TOWNS WITH A CONTESTED ELECTION
The town of Reading has contested races for both supervisor, clerk and town council. Democrat and People's Voice candidate William "Buzz" DeSarno will run against Republican Gary B. Conklin for an available supervisor position. Democrat and People's Voice candidate Muriel Osborne-Petryk will challenge incumbent Republican Alice W. Conklin for her seat. The town council race will feature Democrat and People's Voice candidates Gita Devi and Tamra Jankowski against Republican Stephen L. Miller. Republican newcomer John A. Rockwell is running unopposed for highway superintendent, while incumbent Republican Raymond H. Berry is running for reelection as justice.
The town of Hector will have a contested race for town council between Democrat and Protect Hector candidates Justin Boyette and Debra Reid, and Republican, Conservative, Individual Rights candidates William T. Preston and John R. White. Current Councilman Alvin J. White (Republican, Conservative, Individual Rights) is running unopposed for town supervisor.
Tyrone's only contested election is for town council seats, featuring incumbent Republican Edward Perry running against incumbent Voice of the People candidate Thomas Allen and Serve You's challenger Joe T. Sevier. Incumbent Republicans Donald J. Desrochers and Deborah L. Tyler are running unopposed for reelection to their respective supervisor and town clerk seats. Voice of the People incumbent Paul H. Ernhout is running unopposed for reelection as the highway superintendent.
Catharine will feature only one contested race for supervisor between incumbent Democrat and Small Government Party candidate John VanSoest and Republican Richard Lewis. Incumbent Republicans Ronald W. Hoffman and C. Michael Learn will be seeking reelection to their town council seats unopposed. Republican Acting Justice Ronald Goossen is also running unopposed for reelection.


UNCONTESTED COUNTY ELECTIONS
Mark F. Rondinaro (Republican, Conservative, Reform Party) is running unopposed for a District VII legislative seat. Republicans Benjamin J. Saks and Blanche A. Borzell will also be running unopposed for two coroner seats.


TOWNS WITHOUT A CONTESTED ELECTION
The town of Cayuta will have no contested election. Republican newcomer Brandon K. Theetge is running unopposed for the available supervisor position, while newcomer Thomas J. Russen and incumbent Freeman L. Bischoff (both Republicans) are running for council positions. Democratic newcomer Kathy Vail is running unopposed for town clerk/tax collector, Republican incumbent Thomas J. Beach is running for reelection as highway superintendent and incumbent William P. Barrett (Democrat, Justice For All) is seeking reelection unopposed as justice.
The town of Dix will feature no contested elections, as incumbent councilmen Robert DeNardo (Democrat) and Scott A. Yaw (Republican) seek reelection. Incumbent Town Justice Alan E. Gregory (Republican) is also seeking reelection as the lone candidate.
Republican incumbent councilman T.J. Riley and Republican newcomer Robert B. Simpson are running unopposed for town council seats in the town of Montour, while Republican Highway Superintendent R. Dana Bailey is also running for reelection alone.
In the town of Orange, Republican newcomer Irene G. Shellman is running unopposed for supervisor and Republican incumbent Susan R. Allen is running for reelection to the town council. There is currently no candidate for an available highway superintendent position.
