Waneta Lake accident kills man

WANETA LAKE—A Wisconsin man was killed in a watercraft accident on Waneta Lake, Sunday, July 4.
According to the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Department, the two personal watercrafts (PWC) collided, at 5:50 p.m., fatally injuring Lee A. Brandt, 43. He was flown to Robert Packer Hospital at Guthrie after the accident, but died. The report said Brandt was operating a PWC with friends along the east lake shore, heading north.
The sheriff added the second operator is not being identified at this time. The report said the other PWC operator explained the two were maneuvering close to each other, when Brandt suddenly turned in front of his craft and collided. The other driver said Brandt was struck by his machine at that point.
The sheriff’s department added there was a child riding with Brandt, who was checked by emergency responders and released.
The investigation is continuing. The Tyrone Fire Department and Schuyler County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Wayne Fire Department and Schuyler County Volunteer Ambulance Association.
