Waterfront Festival splashers are coming

WATKINS GLEN—Get ready to make a splash at this year’s Waterfront Festival and Cardboard Boat Regatta, June 18 and 19.
The 17th annual cardboard regatta will be on Seneca Lake at the Seneca Harbor Park. The main event, the regatta, starts at 2 p.m. Saturday. Awards will be given out at 5 p.m. in different categories. There is no cost to watch the cardboard boats race in the Watkins marina.
Last year 95 boats braved the water, and the rain, making it the most entrants in the first 16 years. Be sure to get a good spot on the rocks or along the water’s edge to see and cheer on the races.
The event actually starts Friday with other events organized. The evening will feature music and art, with the Lighting of the Harbor from dusk to 11 p.m. The marina will be wired up with lights to illuminate the evening events. This is the first time for this addition to the Waterfront Festival.
The Friday schedule also includes:
• Art Walk from 4 to 7 p.m.
• Jazz at Seneca Harbor Station and Patio, Music on the Pier at Malabar VII, and Brothers Grateful at Seneca Harbor Park, will all run from 6 to 9 p.m.
• Kids Clothesline Art from 6 to 8 p.m. at the covered patio.
Saturday’s events include:
• The Concourse De Cardboard from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• The boat inspection at 1 p.m.
• The captain’s meeting at 1:30 p.m.
