WATKINS GLEN—The Watkins Glen village board approved two budget amendments for grants during their regular meeting Monday, Dec. 16. The first 2013-14 budget amendment approved was for a streetscapes grant. Watkins Glen Mayor Mark Swinnerton said the grant was applied for by the Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce through the Schuyler County Partnership for Economic Development (SCOPED) in the amount of $15,000. He said the village was selected as the lead agency and will be responsible to receive the grant funds and to pay the vendors.
A budget amendment for an awarded grant to study the operational process of the sewer treatment plant was also approved during the meeting. Swinnerton said the grant was also approved in the amount of $15,000. He said the village has received bills from Barton & Loguidice Engineers and they are preparing the study in excess of the grant funds received.
The board also transferred $1,870 from their capital reserve account for the purchase of a new laptop computer. The resolution states this part of the capital reserve account funds the expenses related to the improvement of equipment for the village clerk. A $1,620 sewer repair reimbursement was also approved during the meeting by the village board. Swinnerton said Robert Carson had sent a letter to the village requesting reimbursement for repairs made to the sewer that services  his property at 210 South Glen Ave. Carson wrote the sewer system backed up and cost him $1,620 in repairs. He said he wanted reimbursement because he did not cause the problem to occur. Trustee Scott Gibson said the situation was that the board did not have a problem with reimbursement.
