WATKINS GLEN—Watkins' girls varsity basketball team topped Moravia, 39-38, in the opening round of sectional matches, Wednesday, Feb. 19. Madison Gates led the Senecas with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and one steal. Victoria Goehner and Amanda Pike each scored eight points. Amanda Cherock and Madison Myers both had three. "The girls came out slow but turned up the heat," said Coach Alicia Learn. "It was a great intense game. Madison Gates did a great job on the boards and had a double double. The guards played well and had some key defensive stops. This win was a team effort." Watkins plays next against Lansing, Saturday, Feb. 22, in the sectional quarter-finals.
