Watkins board reelects O'Donnell, Myers

    WATKINS GLEN—The Watkins Glen school board voted to keep Brian O’Donnell as board president and Michael Myers as vice president during the Wednesday, July 6, reorganizational meeting.
    Board members Gloria Brubaker, Kevin Field, and Tom Richardson were given the oath of office after being reelected in May.  The board also made a number of other yearly appointments like district clerk, treasurer, etc.
    In other business:
    • O’Donnell expressed sympathy on the recent passing of Deb Whiting who was very active in the school community and was a former Parent Teacher Association president.
    • Approved the Athletic Department Coaching Handbook and the Interscholastic Athlete Regulations/Athlete and Parent Handbook for the 2011-12 school year.
    • Superintendent Tom Phillips reported he is working with Treasurer Gayle Sedlack on closing out the 2010-11 fiscal year and should have a fund balance to report soon.
    • Katie Gates was appointed as an occupational therapist.  Daphne Holland and Steve McFarland were appointed as the pre-kindergarten to fourth grade math and science coordinators respectively.
    • Approved an agreement with The Arc of Schuyler County for 2011-12 to continue the Work-Study Program.
    • The board approved an agreement with Seneca Physical Therapy for physical therapy services between July 5, 2011, to  Aug. 12, 2011.
    • A mileage reimbursement was approved for student transportation.  The student will drive to GST BOCES Coopers Campus for CTE classes during 2011-12.
    • Approved an agreement with the University of Rochester for support services and consultation related to autism and special needs students.
    The next regular school board meeting is Monday, Aug. 1.  It is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., following a 5:45 p.m. executive session.
