DRYDEN—The Watkins Glen boys varsity basketball team beat Whitney Point to be the Interscholastic Athletic Conference Large School champion, Thursday, Feb. 14.
The final score was 68-66. Watkins had the Large School South title, while Whitney Point entered the game as the Large School North winner.
Jesse Teeter led the Senecas with 24 points, three assists, and three steals. Josh Teeter had 16 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Colin Gates scored 15 points, three assists, two rebounds, and two blocked shots. Gavin Gates added six points and four rebounds, while Brady Myers had seven points and six rebounds.
Coach John Fazzary said Watkins last won the IAC championship in 2009, before the schools were separated into large and small school divisions. He added it's "a great win for our team and program. This keeps the momentum going for sectionals. Five or six teams have a shot at winning it."
Watkins next plays in a Section IV Class C contest, Saturday, Feb. 23. The Senecas, seeded number two, face the winner of a sectional game on Wednesday, Feb. 20.
