Watkins finishes first in swimming sectionals

OWEGO—The Watkins Glen boys swimming team finished first in the Section IV Class C swimming championship, Saturday, Feb. 13, in Owego.  Odessa-Montour's swimming team also competed, finishing in last place out of the eight schools in the class.
For Watkins, Kyle Cocola took first place in the One Meter Diving competition.  Preston Roberts also won third place, Homer Wixson fourth, and Josh Hamelin fifth in this event.
The Watkins Glen team; of Connor Fazzary, Thomas Wickham, Chris Carlton, and Jacq Goehner, also took second in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay.  The relay team also placed third in the 400 Yard Freestyle.  Watkins finished third in the 200 Yard Medley Relay.  The team was made up of Cameron Fitch, Moritz Schrader, Adam Rice, and Frank Cady.
Goehner took third and Derek Palmer took fifth in the 200 Yard Freestyle for Watkins.  Zack Dvornicky-Raymond won fifth in the 200 Yard IM.  In the 50 Yard Freestyle, Fazzary took third place and Wickham took fourth.
Rice won third place in the 100 Yard Butterfly.  Fazzary, Fitch, and Wickham took third, fifth, and sixth place respectively in the 100 Yard Freestyle.  Palmer placed sixth in the 500 Yard Freestyle.  Goehner also won fifth place in the 100 Yard Backstroke.  Fitch and Rice followed in seventh and eighth place.  Dvornicky-Raymond also placed third in the 100 Yard Breaststroke.  Cocca and Schrader followed in fifth and sixth place.
For Odessa, the relay team took sixth place in the 400 Yard Freestyle.  The team was made up of C.J. Husted, Derrick Frasier, John Wead, and Martin Eccleston.
Wead took 12th place in the 200 Yard IM.  He also placed 10th in the 100 Yard Backstroke.  Eccleston took 10th place in the 50 Yard Freestyle.  He also won 10th in the 100 Yard Freestyle.
