Watkins girls beat Newark, 63-35

WATKINS GLEN—The Watkins Glen girls basketball team beat Newark, with almost double the points, Friday, Dec. 18.
The Senecas won the home game, 62-35.  Coach Michelle Simiele said this was only the third game of the season for many of the young Watkins players.  However, she added the Senecas had "a good flow, offensively."  She said the players were forced to hit shots and that made them play.
Jordan Myers and Taylor Chaffee both scored 15 points each for Watkins.  Chaffee also had seven rebounds, nine steals, and three assists.  Shelby Olafson had 10 points.  Marissa Pike had five rebounds and five assists.  Simiele said the team had a total of 22 steals in the game.
The Senecas play against Odessa-Montour next, Dec. 22.

Indoor track
The Watkins Glen Indoor Track team competed at SUNY Cortland's Lusk Fieldhouse, Saturday, Dec. 19.
According to Coach Justin Mucitelli, many Watkins Glen 11th and 12th graders beat personal records.  Laura Flood took first place in the 1500m racewalk. She lowered her time by just over 8 seconds for a new personal record of 8:49.10. Captain Amber Swartz took fourth place in the 1000m run with a time of 3:28.8. Swartz also took 18th out of 80 in the 300m dash with a time of 48.10 seconds. Both for her times are personal records.
On the men's team, Joe Daughmer bettered his time in the 55m dash to 7.10 seconds for a new personal record.  Mucitelli said Adrein Bergling continued to better his mark in the Shot Put and 55m dash.  His Shot Put distance was 26'11" and 55m dash time was 7.3 seconds, both personal bests. Captain Eric Mack ran a personal best in the 300m dash with a time of 40.20 seconds.
The upper classmen were joined by their younger teammates to compete in the 800m relay. Amelia Stamp and Mikaela Suddaby helped to complete the women's relay team of Swartz and Flood with a time of 2:13.80. Billy Brennan joined the men's team of Mack, Daughmer, and Bergling for a time of 1:48.50.
Women's Results
Swartz: 1000m run in 3:28.80, fourth place (Personal Record), and the 300m dash in 48.10 seconds, 18th place (Personal Record).
Flood: 1500m racewalk in 8:49.10, first place (Personal Record), and the 1500m run in 6:40.80 (Personal Record).
Flood, Swartz, Amelia Stamp, and Mikaela Suddaby completed the 800m Relay in 2:13.80.
Men's Results
Bergling: 55m dash in 7.3 seconds (Personal Record) and Shot Put with 26'11" (Personal Record).
John Bloodgood: 1000m run in 3:34.90 (Personal Record) and 600m run in 1:56.50 (Personal Record).
Daughmer: 55m dash in 7.10 seconds (Personal Record) and 300m dash in 43.40 seconds.
Mack: 55m dash in 7.10 seconds and 300m dash in 40.20 seconds (Personal Record).
Bergling, Daughmer, Mack, and Billy Brennan completed the 800m Relay in 1:48.5.

Bowling
Watkins Glen boys and girls bowling teams faced off against Odessa-Montour, Thursday, Dec. 17.
The O-M boys and Watkins girls teams were victorious.  In boys bowling, O-M had 2,096 points and Watkins had 1,506.  In girls bowling, the Watkins team scored 2,200 points and Odessa, 1,835.
